Georges Yatridès is a French-American artist born in France in 1931. His work is held various North American private collections, and has been featured in retrospectives and art school events.

Biography

French-American artist Georges Yatridès in July 2010.

In 1954, under the influence of Gauguin and the Fauvists he exhibited paintings produced from 1945 to 1949 in Vichy. In 1956, his work was shown in Paris at Madame Chastenet de Gery's Gallerie des Voyelles [1] (no longer in existence).

From 1957 to 1965, he held solo exhibitions in the USA[2] [3], Canada, Latin America, Switzerland, Great Britain and Greece, where all his works were acquired by private collections. A permanent exhibition of his paintings was mounted in the United States.

Yatridès made the large compositions that would characterize his art in the 1970s [4]. In 1974 he had a retrospective exhibition. In 1981, he exhibited paintings inspired by the Bible in three crypts in the Sacré-Cœur in Paris.[5]

Main events and exhibitions

  • Drawings and Watercolors of the French School 1900-1959, 1958 : works of artists who had for the most part participated in the prestigious exhibition : From Clouet to Matisse - French Drawings in American Private Collections - organized at the Musée de l'Orangerie by the American Embassy in Paris[6]
  • Contemporary French Masters,1959, Chicago[2] bringing together 18 artists including Braque, Villon, Chagall, Picasso
  • Masters of Modern Art 1910-1960, 1960 (special mention in cubist, post-impressionist, expressionist and surrealist schools)
  • Specialists in XXth Century Masters, 1965 (special mention in Collector's Choice 1965)

Events in which Georges Yatridès participated

  • French and Canadian International Biennials 1987-1988[8] – Special Guest of Honour. This event brought together more than 10 partners cities, directly under the aegis of Valéry Giscard d’Estaing.
  • Canada-France International biennials 1988[8] in Québec – Great Master Guest of these Biennals organized by Jean-François Echegut and bringing together more than 170 artists from more than 35 countries, who were 30flown to Canada in a Boeing specially chartered by him, followed by a 30-cubic-meter sea container carrying more than 1,000 works, notably those of Cocteau, Chagall, Matisse, André Lhote, Picasso
  • Canada-France Biennials 1991-1993 – Main Master Guest[8].

News

Bruno Roche met Georges Yatridès in 2010 and immediately noticed the great artistic value of his work. He then created the web site YatridesArts.com in order to promote Yatrides' life and art, as well as documents attesting of the great value of his work and presenting his available paintings and reproductions for sale.

Thanks to YatridesArts.com, Yatridès has comes back into the art market in 2010 to unveil his two (2) last periods “Synthesis First” (1945–1988) – “Apodictic Synthesis Last” (1945–2009). These periods clearly demonstrate the consistency of his work from his beginnings in 1945 up to his apodictic period from 1977 to 1988 which concluded with an omnipresent spatial compression that takes control of time.[9] Some collectors have used the term "apodictic" to describe this new school of which Yatridès is the only representative for the simple reason that he artistically transposed what he personally discovered at the C.E.N.G. (Grenoble Nuclear Research Center).[9]

Bibliography and resources

Numerous publications and catalogues are dedicated to Yatridès. In 1983, Jacques CHARPENTIER composed his "Prelude for the Elsewhere" in Rio de Janeiro, in homage to The New Scrolls, the painting that Yatridès had donated for the Polish Children's Christmas, and whose sale at auction had made possible the shipment of medicines and medical equipment. In 1992, Arthur Conte's work, Yatridès, Master of Time was published, and in 1994, that of Alexandre (Sacha) Bourmeyster, Yatridès and His Century, The Anti-Picasso. This was followed by: in 1960, YATRIDES, Interstellar Icons in KUBRICK 'S 1968 film, 2001: Space Odyssey, as well as Yatridès and The Bible, Editor's Choice - to be published.

Kubrick draws his inspiration from Yatrides’ "interstellar icons", 1957-1965 and use them on the form and content for his movie 2001: space odyssey". Undisputed master of graphic art (…) his next exhibits confirmed his leader position (...). The rigour of his work, the continuity in its evolution makes possible the elaboration of a specific grammar for his pictorial expression, hence a semeiological interpretation. (Alexandre Bourmeyster). "(...) Indeed beyond the graphical structure whose efficiency of the stroke is comparable to the one of the speech, Yatrides’ paintings ask metaphysical questions and answer them at the same time, by representing the origin of the man as well as his future."

Already, through this symbol, we are attaining the great cosmic vision (….) In 1985, 2010 (Odyssey 2) by Peter Hyams, follows up the Odyssey. "Note : this text refers to the painting "The teenager and the child" because of its important dimensions and because of the behaviour of the teenager opposed to the one of the child : this last one can see the Truth darkened for the Teenager reddened during this period. One come across the innocent clear-sightedness of the child again, biblical theme defined by the Christ-God of the Christendom. This painting has also taken part to 11 monographic exhibits and several times to group exhibits. It is reproduced in the Index page of the book "Yatrides Maître du temps (Yatrides Master of Time)".
