VODO is an online media distributor releasing films under a Creative Commons license using the BitTorrent protocol.[1] Filmmakers can upload films on the site and selected works are also promoted on third-party sites and services such as uTorrent or The Pirate Bay, Mininova and OneDDL.
Past releases include sci-fi series Pioneer One,[2] The Yes Men Fix the World[3] and Zenith. Users are encouraged to donate after watching the films, and the highest earning to date has received almost $100,000.[4] Donations on films come with virtual tickets that allow the ticket holder to stream the film immediately on demand from the ScaleEngine video streaming content delivery network.
Users are also encouraged to spread the word by earning a virtual currency, Do, and there has also been competitions held together with different companies such as Mofilm.[5][6]
VODO films can be streamed and viewed immediately, and can also be downloaded and viewed using uTorrent Apps and Miro.
