Hell Chose Me is the third album by American deathcore band Carnifex, released February 16, 2010, through Victory Records.
Background
The band started writing and recording for Hell Chose Me throughout 2009. Upon its release it gained a much higher positive reception and acclaim in terms of musical style, structure and ideas.[4] Carnifex maintained this proportion by having much more time during the writing and recording process than their previous albums.[5]
On January 5, the band uploaded the first single from the album, "Hell Chose Me". They began streaming the entire album to the public on February 10, 2010, less than 6 days before the official release date.
A European Tour was embarked upon, with Veil of Maya and Suffokate in support, starting 28/05/10 in Bochum, Germany and ending 19/06/10 at Summerblast Festival in Trier, Germany, taking in Spain, France, UK, Holland, Sweden, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. The tour was presented by Avocado Booking. An error occurred when producing the posters and they have written on them "Hell Choose Me", rather than "Hell Chose Me". This remained the official tour poster all the way through the tour despite this.[citation needed]
Controversy
Once Hell Chose Me was released, the album cover depicting a reincarnated priest bearing an inverted cross on his chest and holding a cornucopia of goat heads in hand generated controversy and was taken to offense by some religious groups and protesters. The cover had its display censored at many music retailers before a purchase of the album was made.
