He manages to make his way through training, but makes an enemy of the powerful House Jerazis. He then leaves the empire temporarily to live as a human, and falls in love with Raine, a local. After being recalled for a chance to compete to be emperor, and learning that after twenty years struggling to control the Imperial Mind, the emperor is absorbed, he allows another Prince to take the role, and goesto live with Raine. |

The Imperial Mind: A gestalt entity of all the previous Emperors, directed by the present incumbent. However, typically after twenty years the directing identity begins to be subsumed, and a new directing identity is needed.
Emperor: Requires the extraordinarily high degree of native Psitek ability to ascend the throne and direct the Imperial Mind, has absolute power to direct the Mind and through the Mind, every Prince and every priest
In the setting are 16 priesthoods of the Emperor, each concerned with a particular aspect. The priests are the servants of the Imperial Mind (that is the Emperor). Princes do not consider the Emperor a God, and nor do his priests. The Aspects are
