The Works first opened to the public in 1995 but the idea for the organization was originally devised by founder, and recent president, Rebecca Schatz in the 1980’s. The organization first debuted as an exhibit in the Bell Museum and eventually took residence in donated space in shopping malls and in 2002, relocated to the Edina Community Center.
With rapidly increasing attendance and many unfulfilled requests for programming, The Works’ relocated to central Bloomington in November 2011.
