Early life

Rulli was born on October 26, 1971 to an Italian American family in St. Paul, Minnesota.[1][2] His mother Gina worked as a foreign language teacher at a local high school while his father Angelo work as a probation officer during his early life; however, teenage Rulli and his father joined Circus Flora where he was assistant to his father's organ grinding.[2] He is a graduate of Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood, Minnesota.[3] He went on to get a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and a Master of Theology Degree from Saint John's University.[4]

Career in media

Rulli got an ambitious start in television by producing and hosting the television show "Generation Cross" from 1998-2004.[1] "Generation Cross" is nationally syndicated on multiple Catholic networks including EWTN, prompting Rulli to winning multiple Emmy Awards for "Program Host".[1][5] Rulli also a co-executive produced "The Last Flagraiser," a CBS documentary honoring the World War II soldiers who raised the flag at the Battle of Iwo Jima.[6] "The Last Flagraiser" won Rulli and crew another Emmy Award for "Best Documentary," the "Scripps-Howard National Journalism Award," and the "National Headliner Grand Award." Additionally, Rulli is also a producer of the film "Champions of Faith" in which faith, life, and baseball are explored.[7]

In his media career Rulli has also been a reporter for WCCO-TV and a commentator for KMSP-TV, both stations based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota.[1] The Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, as well as the County of Westchester in New York, declared September 29 to be Lino Rulli Day (initiated in 2010).[8]

Rulli's current production is "The Catholic Guy" radio show, the afternoon drive show aired weekdays on The Catholic Channel on Sirius XM Satellite Radio. Rulli also hosts "Lino at Large," a radio show sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and heard on both Sirius XM and syndicated throughout North America..[9] Per "The Catholic Guy" show, he has worked on additional media projects for various Catholic and secular organizations. He has also made appearances on Howard Stern's Sirius XM channels (Howard 100 and Howard 101), specifically The Jay Thomas Show and Howard 100 News.[10][11]

In September 2011, Rulli released his first book, "Sinner," in which he shares the joys and the struggles of trying to follow God in everyday circumstances.[12] Rulli also make frequent appearances on Fox News, often discussing Catholic current events and other religious issues.[13]
