"Breaking Free"
Song

"Breaking Free" is a song from the Disney Channel Original Movie, High School Musical. It also appears on the soundtrack by the same name. It is sung by Zac Efron and Vanessa Anne Hudgens.

Song information

"Breaking Free" is the song that Gabriella (Hudgens) and Troy (Efron) sing when they get a call back for the musical. Created by the school's personal student composer, the song is an exposé of Gabriella and Troy's voices, which is perhaps one of the contributing factors to this song's success.Breaking Free is the song Troy and Gabriella are practicing for, for mainly the whole movie

Chart performance

"Breaking Free" debuted at number 86 on the Billboard Hot 100, due to strong downloads. In its second week, the song jumped from number 86 to number four. The song was even more successful on the iTunes Top 100, peaking at number one just days after the film was released. It is the most successful song on the movie's soundtrack.

The song made Hot 100 history when its 82-position jump became the largest upward movement in a single week. Interestingly, the song's enormous surge was propelled solely by digital downloads, with no radio airplay.

Thanks to the fact that it is so far the highest peaking song from the soundtrack, from both iTunes and the Billboard Hot 100, it is considered the most successful song from the soundtrack.

It was certified platinum along with the soundtrack during its seventh week on the Billboard Charts.
