Tom Hughes (born 18 April 1985) is an English actor. Among his roles: Jonty Millingden in ITV drama Trinity, Chaz Jankel in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll,[1] Bruce Pearson in Cemetery Junction,[2][3] and Nick Slade in BBC legal drama Silk.[4][5]

Early life

Hughes was born and brought up up in Chester, Cheshire, where he attended Upton High School.[6] Hughes was a member of Cheshire Youth Theatre and the Jigsaw Music Theatre Company, and graduated from RADA[1] in 2008 with a BA in acting.

Career

In 2009, he featured in the spin-off BBC series Casualty 1909, and in ITV's Trinity.

In 2010, he appeared in Ian Dury biopic Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll as Dury's bandmate Chaz Jankel,[1] and starred as rebellious Bruce Pearson in comedy-drama Cemetery Junction, by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.[2][3] In the same year he appeared in Sweet Nothings by David Harrower at the Young Vic, directed by Luc Bondy,[7] and was nominated for a BIFA Award for Most Promising Newcomer.[8] In 2011, he was named one of the 42 BAFTA Brits to Watch.[9]

He recently starred as pupil barrister Nick Slade in BBC legal drama Silk,[4][5] and appeared in BBC thriller Page Eight, alongside Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz.

He often listens to music on set to help him get into the right frame of mind before filming a scene.[10]

Other

Hughes was a guitarist in the indie band Quaintways, but left in April 2011. He appeared in the Burberry autumn/winter campaign along side actress Emma Watson.
