MAC AIDS Fund[2] (M·A·F) was established in 1994. The fund was developed to support people who are living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. As well as donating funds to communities that offer services and help to and prevent the HIV/AIDS through educational programs and services.
History
MAC cosmetics,[3] based in New York City, was originally founded by Frank Angelo and Frank Toskan. Toskan was the original founder, he worked as a make-up artist and photographer. Later Frank Angelo an entrepreneur joined his partner and developed a line cosmetics that is today known as MAC cosmetics. In 1997, the company was bought out by Estee Lauder,[4] shortly after Co-Founder Frank Angelo died. Frank Toskan went on to create the Toskan Casale Foundation.[5] MAC's new owners carried on with the foundation and its efforts to support men, women, and children affected with HIV/AIDS.
Programs
VIVA GLAM
VIVA GLAM[6] is the backbone for MAC's AIDS fund. VIVA GLAM is a line of lipsticks and lipglosses from which every cent of the sale price goes to help those living with HIV/AIDS around the world, setting M.A.C. apart from its peers, most of which only donate a portion of the profits ("proceeds") of a product. M.A.C. Cosmetics is currently the leading non-pharmaceutical corporate fundraiser for HIV/AIDS worldwide and has raised over $280 million dollars to date thanks to the VIVA GLAM campaign. The VIVA GLAM campaign was started in 1994 with the launch of VIVA GLAM I, the first of six permanent lipstick shades.[7] Funding goes towards direct care, prevention, and global communities that also help to assist those fighting the HIV/AIDS virus.

MAC has brought several celebrity endorsers to the team. The following recording artist and public figures have debuted in ad campaigns for MAC.
In 2001 Elton John and his own Elton John AIDS Foundation[9] partnered with MAC AIDS Fund. Two years later Shirley Manson, Elton John and Mary J. Blige were named the new spokespeople for VIVA GLAM IV lipstick.[10] RuPaul and rap artist Eve are just a few of celebrities that are a part of the VIVA Glam campaign.
Mary J. Blige in 2000 she was named spokesperson for VIVA GLAM III Lipstick alongside Rap Artist Lil' Kim.[11]
In 2004, Christina Aguilera, Pamela Anderson,[12] Missy Elliott, Linda Evangelista, Chloë Sevigny and Boy George were named the spokespeople for VIVA Glam V.[13] The idea was to include a very diverse group of individuals that fit MAC's motto "all ages, all races, all sexes".
Shirley Manson, was chosen for several reasons stated in an interview with MAC Cosmetics President John Demsey.[14] Creativity, presence and dedication to the fund were just a few of the attributes she brought to the campaign.
Fergie[15] appears on several magazine spreads for VIVA GLAM. She took another path by becoming the MAC's spokesperson for the global youth prevention initiative.[16]
The new spring 2010 spokeswomen include Cyndi Lauper[17] who poses alongside Lady Gaga[18] by endorsing VIVA GLAM VI.[19] They also hope to add awareness to issues women face with HIV/AIDS.
The next two Viva Glam people are Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin. Ricky Martin is the first Latin American man to be asked to be a part of Viva Glam. They have both created their own cosmetics, Nicki's being a light pink lipstick and Ricky's being a lip conditioner. They have worked diligently to help HIV/AIDS.
