List of mail archiving

Various methods have been made into product offerings or services to provide storage or retrieval of e-mail over extended periods of time. Small to medium sized businesses find this an even greater challenge as entry level costs may be prohibitive in nature.

Differing from a backup system in and of itself, multiple components exist to true e-mail archiving system.

  • The original version of Internet mail sent typically via(SMTP and POP3). Authenticity seems key to this part of the subject matter.
  • HTML e-mail along with text or related document attachments.
  • Speedy search and retrieval functions for performance of requests made by parties authorized to review the archiving of those e-mails.
  • Efficient storage via compression and deduplication of the contents of the e-mails themselves.
  • Periodicity of gathering the e-mail flow if batch mode is employed.
  • Policy enforcement, especially in regards to handling of e-mail deletion versus regulations that may prohibit the removal of such or usage in that organization.
  • Certification with compliance to standards of the organization.
