== IP address allocation ==

You might like to believe that IP address allocation works the same here as in your part of the world, especially as it happens to suit your purposes. You have shown a clear tendency to 'cherry pick' only those bits of evidence that support your rants, and totally ignore those that don't. The clue is at the bottom of any IP address contribution page (including yours) where it says, "''Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users.''". This is a reference to the dynamic IP address allocation prevalent in Europe. I have no idea why they do it this way, but they do. You have a static IP address. You will always have it until you cancel your contract with your service provider. Here, we get an IP address only as long as the service provider provides it. We have no control over it at all. I don't know why or when it changes, but it seems to change quite frequently for no adequately explored reason. It certainly changes if I switch my [[FOT]] off (such as when I go on holiday), but I have noticed it change regularly at other times when I am still connected (we are usually permanently connected here).

You made reference to 212.183.140.50 returning from a four month absence to add his observation at [[Talk:Power factor]]. 212.183.140.50 is also part of a range of dynamic IP addresses (used by Vodaphone UK). An editor (or possibly editors) using the 212 prefix is a (very) occasional contributor to engineering articles. It is true that he has not been around for just over three months, but this might be explained by the fact that the 212 block of IP addresses has just ended a three month IP address range block because of misuse by another unrelated editor. The previous history of 212.183.140.50 shows editing on a wide variety of subjects, but not engineering related. A check on that IP address shows that it is currently unallocated but it does geolocate to London, UK (as of the time stamp at the end of this page). There is a prominent notice at the top of the talk page on all 212 series addresses explaining what I have said.
