Once upon a Time is a 2013 Malayalam-language Indian animated film directed by Binu Sasidharan, basically for children. The film was produced by FX3 productions in association with VIPs International and the screenplay for the film was done by Anil Perumbalam. It became the first feature film to be animated in Malayalam. For the first time in Indian screen 3D animated models of popular actors has been created for a full length animated feature film. Actor Salim Kumar (National Award winner for best actor 2010) and actor Mala Aravindan have achieved this rare honour of being the first actors whose 3D models play a significant role in this fantasy story. Once upon a time is the second regional language animated feature film to be created in India. Once upon a time is also the first film in a regional language other than Hindi to use voices of popular actor for animated characters. Film personalities Salim Kumar, Mala Aravindan, Machan Varghese, Narayanankutty had lend their voices for the characters in this film. Salim Kumar and Mala Aravindan’s voice will be presented through Minister’s and Sage’s character respectively.

Popular music director Bijibal (National Award winner 2012) had composed five songs for the film. Bijibal also have created original Background score for the film. The songs are rendered by Sujatha, Shweta menon & Rajesh Ravindran. The lyrics are penned by Dr. Valsala Vijayana and Anil Perumbalam.

Plot

The story depicts a strange happening in the life of an adventurous and mischievous boy named Rahul who learns about a magical kingdom from a book gifted by a sage. The Story moves to a new dimension when Rahul and his toy kunjan accidentally lands up in a mysterious world similar to that he had read in the book. Rahul’s quest to unfold the mystery of the magical land changes him to the chosen one for saving the kingdom from the evil forces of the black magician and the power hungry minister. The film based on this fantasy story is treated to entertain the viewers and hook them to the story by retaining the curiosity element and the suspense factor till the end.
