Marit Christensen (born 11 November 1948) is a Norwegian journalist.

She worked for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation between 1977 and 2002. Here, she was a journalist, correspondent in Moscow from 1984 to 1988,[1] and presenter for the entertainment shows For galleriet (1992–1993) and Apropos (1998–1999).[2] Her time in Moscow earned her the nickname "Moskva-Marit" ("Moscow Marit").[2][3]

Controversial book based on interviews with the mother of Anders Behring Breivik

On 17 August 2013, Christensen disclosed that for the last year of Wenche Behring Breivik's life, the mother of Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik, Christensen had been her confidant, and the book was going to be published in the autumn 2013, under the title "The Mother"[4]. Author Marit Christensen and the Norwegian publishing house Aschehoug, have been both praised and harshly criticized for publishing the book.[5].

On 14 September 2013 Verdens Gang said that before Wenche Behring Breivik died, she hired a lawyer to prevent[6] Marit Christensen in publishing the book Moren (Norwegian: The mother).[7] In advance, Christensen had taped herself interviewing Wenche Behring Breivik.[7] Dagbladet has said that Christensen "had access to diaries".[8]

On 16 September 2013 she said on Dagsrevyen that it is "my story, not hers".[9] (Previously, in August 2013 Christensen said that Wenche Behring Breivik would be given "time and space for her own version".)[9]

The book was published Oct, 31, 2013—"by Aschehoug".[9]
