By Julian Bain the famed photographer remembers the photo shoot...''"The famous cover of Diana Ross was the "Diana" cover, and that's the one where we practically had to knock her out to do it. No make up, wet hair, Gia's ripped jeans, and a wet T-shirt. She just didn't know what was happening to her. She showed the pictures to Cher and she said, 'I don't know about this. Francesco Scavullo (January 16, 1921 – January 6, 2004) was an American fashion photographer known popularly for his covers of Cosmopolitan Magazine and his portraits of celebrities. His domestic partner was Sean Byrne.
His works became so well known that celebrities sought his services, including Andy Warhol. His portraits of Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Janis Joplin are internationally known. In 1975, his portrait of an unclothed young Brooke Shields caused controversy. Scavullo also produced the photograph for the album cover of the 1976 film A Star Is Born.
At age six, actress Yasmine Bleeth appeared in a Max Factor cosmetic campaign along with the model, Cristina Ferrare. Yasmine's work in this campaign caught the eye of fashion photographer, Francesco Scavullo, who subsequently included Yasmine and her mother, Carina, a fashion model, in his book entitled Scavullo's Women.
