Proposed merge from North Tyneside Council
We currently have two articles effectively about the same thing, with one drawing a false distinction between the two. North Tyneside Council currently states in the opening paragraph, "North Tyneside Council is the local council for the Metropolitan borough of North Tyneside". Except "North Tyneside Council" is the Metropolitan borough of North Tyneside. They are the same thing.
The North Tyneside Council article currently consists mainly of a list of election results tables, which are mostly superfluous, and a list of (current?) councillors, which is definitely unnecessary and unencyclopaedic. I think that the Mayoral election results may be worth keeping and merging in, given that directly elected mayors are notable my their rarity in the UK, but more concerning are all the sub-pages linked from North Tyneside Council - five pages of even more detailed ward-by-ward election results breakdowns. Is all this stuff really necessary? Cheers, DWaterson 16:56, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
In Comparison
Hi, I built these pages from scratch by myself, and it has taken me a long time to assess all of the relevant percentages of candidates, parties and swing etc. I have merely mimicked what is present on countless other election pages such as Coventry, Knowsley, Rochdale and Sheffield to name but a few. I would be grateful if you didn't try to get rid of all of the work, time and effort I have spent on these pages. Thanks Pieboyjr 09:46, 6 July 2007 (UTC).
- I'm sure you have put a lot of work into this. However, even if we keep the content, I still think the articles should be merged given that there is no such thing as "North Tyneside Council", and the "North Tyneside" article already covers the topic of the actual organisation, which is called North Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council. Cheers, DWaterson 12:09, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah definately, sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying! Yeah by all means merge them if you can. I'm not sure how to do it so I better leave to somebody who knows what they're doing! Cheers, Pieboyjr 14:32, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- OK, I've gone ahead and merged, making the required grammatical changes and paragraph rearrangement to make the text flow smoothly. The only thing I've left out is the list of the names of current councillors - really I don't think this is required, given that the list can easily be found on the council's website and it doesn't really add anything to the article - the councillors themselves are not really notable in their own right. Hope this looks OK to you. Cheers, DWaterson 21:48, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Janet Hunter
Can anyone tell me why Janet Hunter redirects here? Nothing on the page suggests why it should be so. Jason A. Recliner (talk) 13:54, 14 November 2008 (UTC)
- Same for Joan Walker.--Lakkasuo (talk) 22:45, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
- Now I got "Redirected from Joan Bell". I googled all these three and seems they are or were elected to some offices in North Tyneside. Strange, though, that the names are not mentioned in the article. And, I was actually looking for an actress named Joan Bell. 85.217.22.61 (talk) 01:52, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
