• 2014 Ukrainian Regional State Administration occupations:
  • Pro-Russian activists occupying a government building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk have proclaimed the creation of a sovereign Donetsk People's Republic independent of the capital Kiev. (The Guardian) (The Irish Times)

  • The full 2014 induction class of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is announced. Players Alonzo Mourning and Mitch Richmond, coaches Nolan Richardson and Gary Williams, and the Immaculata College women's team of 1972–1974 will join five individuals announced in February (players Šarūnas Marčiulionis and Guy Rodgers, coach Bob "Slick" Leonard, and contributors Nathaniel Clifton and David Stern).
