==Robert I==

Why is Robert Isherwood still banned? Two more people have been banned for giving very similar legal advice etc. As its extremely unlikely they are all the same person (!) what is the precise argument against him? [[User:81.129.155.181|81.129.155.181]] 22:18, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Revision as of 22:18, 28 June 2006

Archives at User talk:Wikiwizzy/Archive1 up to October 2005, User talk:Wikiwizzy/Archive2 to March, 2006.

I will answer requests here, if you post them here. I mostly concentrate on Africa based articles.

Proxies (hopefully sorted now)

I've sent an email to Tim Starling (according to meta:XFF project), with the details of the proxies, and he replied that they have been whitelisted. So hopefully everything's sorted out now. dewet| 08:27, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great! I presume the proxies do the X-Forwarded-From ? Did you check ? Wizzy 08:32, 24 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I checked using another proxy-detecting-website; they pass my real IP on. I've also verified in the sandbox that my IP shows up, so everything seems hunky-dory. dewet| 02:38, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Andy. Sure. I won't post again before end April. best wishes. Bob BScar23625 21:20, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thank you Andy for the revert on my talk page. As soon as I start vandal patrol this starts. I see that you are from Kenya, what tribe? My neighbours are Kenyan. The husband is Luo and the wife is Kĩkũyũ. --Jcw69 18:17, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The White tribe .. :-) Wizzy 11:18, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"what tribe?" <- That's too funny!!!!!!!!!!!! They say a laugh a day keeps the doctor away - at this rate I'll be immortal!! Zyxoas (talk to me - I'll listen) 11:55, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I consider myself African, and so I don't consider the question inappropriate. It was not intended as a facetious reply. Wizzy 13:07, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Eh? I thought I belonged to the only white tribe of Africa? :-) Elf-friend 07:02, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A laugh a minute (well, almost)

Well, considering yourself African does not mean you belong to a "tribe". In the same way that being a US rapper does not mean you are a nigger. Beware of colonialist divide-and-conquer theories when dealing with African issues. Speaking of which, could you perhaps take a look at what I dumped at Talk:Bantu languages yesterday? Be sure to tell all your friends about it... Please alert me on my talk page when you respond. Zyxoas (talk to me - I'll listen) 14:25, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I have been following things, and will be tagging articles. Any word on a script to build the CD ? Wizzy 08:22, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if you have not yet done so, we could sure use your input on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Dewet. Thanks! Elf-friend 10:24, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WPCD

Hi Andy, regarding the WDCD template you're adding, does the template automatically add these to a category page, do you know? I tried to follow what was being added from "what links here," but it doesn't list pages in alphabetical order, so it's hard to use, whereas the category list would be alphabetical. Any information gratefully received. :-) SlimVirgin (talk) 13:50, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SV, The Talk page is added to [[Category:Wikipedia CD Selection]]. The project page mentions it, but perhaps the template itself should mention it directly? Wizzy 13:54, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Andy -- Just wanted to send a "thank you" for adding the WPCD tag to the Che Guevara article!-- Polaris999 17:17, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP1.0, CD and WP0.5

Hi Wizzy,

Hey, thank you so much for getting the WPCD template out there, that's really helpful! Can I take it that you would be interested in helping with the next version of that collection?

Thanks also for signing up to help out with WP:V0.5. I was thinking of opening up the V0.5 nominations page on Thursday to start accepting nominations, what do you think? Will you be around to help in the next few weeks? Would you be able to help review articles for it? I have contacted Maurreen and Tito directly as well, they are currently the active folks associated with this, though I hope that more will join us once we get up & running. Let me know your opinion. Thanks again for all your help, Walkerma 02:43, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, I notice that you have been busy with the {{WPCD}} template, and I saw your mention of downloading category listings. Have you thought about using the bot to do this sort of thing for you? The main listing is here, and there is a guide to adding a project to the listing. I'll also post something on the project page. I hope, too, that you can help review articles for us at WP:V0.5N when you get a chance. South Africa has already been passed! Cheers, Walkerma 01:27, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I want to try and turn out a CD myself, just to get through the whole process once. I like Bozmo's CD, but its just not big enough! I converted it to plucker format, and its only 40Meg - I would like one 10x that size. I am not as picky as he is either - even though schools are a target of mine as well. I am thinking along the following lines :-
  1. Start with a current xml dump - 89% now, I should have it all tomorrow.
  2. Get used to the xml tools, like mwdumper. I can cut down the dump to just the list in a file - that list is the WPCD category dump.
  3. I need the category listings to work on the CD.
  4. Post-processing on the dump - remove 'red-linked' article markup. I think I will leave External Links - they can be useful.
  5. Count highly inter-referenced pages that are not in my selection - consider adding a proportion.
  6. List all images referenced in the dump. Figure out how to get just those pictures out of the impossibly-sized image tarballs - maybe by getting them directly via Export or something.

I have the mediawiki software, so I can re-create a server with just those articles. I have (a quite old) picture archive, that might save me some time. Maybe a combination of my own server and some pybot tools will allow me to experiment ? Wizzy 13:27, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I took a while to follow up. I know that User:BozMo can do a lot of the cleanup that you mention, though I dare say you knew that! If you want a bigger list, try looking at Wikipedia:Concise, though I notice that WPCD is getting much bigger now (Bozmo said around 4500 to me recently). At some point soon we will need to set up a sub-project at WP:1.0 to handle all of these sorts of issues, would you be willing to be involved with that? I realise that Version 0.5 may only be small, but I think things will begin to grow rapidly once we begin to produce CDs. Let us know how you get on. Thanks, Walkerma 04:35, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

St Lucia

Hi Andy, I am sorry I don't know how to reference a page without showing the image. Would you like me to change the image in any way? I have the source files somewhere. Just let me know and its good as done. --Jcw69 16:16, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done!!! The photoshop source was not on my computer anymore and had to search a number of backup disks for it. Anyway I have uploaded the new one. --Jcw69 11:00, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looks fine - Thanks!! Wizzy 11:57, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
