Shobhana Samarth was an actress in the early era of the Indian film industry. She started with Marathi cinema and her first Hindi film, Nigahen Nafrat was released in 1935. She is remembered for her potrayal of Sita in Ram Rajya.
She was born as Saroj Shilotri to a banker named P.S. Shilotri in 1915 and died on 9th February, 2000 of cancer. She was married to cinematographer Kumarsen Samarth. They had four children. Eventually the couple parted and Shobhana became linked to actor Motilal. Two of her daughters became leading actresses when they grew up, they were Nutan and Tanuja. Shobhana produced their entry films. Her other daughter is an artist. Nutan's son Mohnish Behl is also a character actor, and Tanuja's daughter Kajol is also an actress and is married to actor Ajay Devgan. In her old age she had difference with her daughter Nutan over finances but they reconciled before Nutan's death in 1992. Shobhana Samarth has seven grandaughters, one grandson, three greatgrandaughters, and two greatgrandsons.
