UK Dental conspiracy comments

To comment, I would point out that composite fillings done 100% correctly risk fracture of teeth because of the polymerization contraction that occurs during setting of the material. The material is bonded to the walls of the cavity, and it shrinks slightly, which draws the parts of the tooth around the filling together, which may lead to a crack appearing.

Also, even if UK dentists are carrying out dental work which is below "international standard",(compared to what exactly, Somalia?) which I don't think anyone is likely to accept without a very reliable source, the fault does not lie with dentists but with the NHS, whose system forces NHS dentists to work incredibly fast in order to make ends meet. The perceived ultra-high income available in UK dentistry is largely a myth under the new NHS. You see a patient every 10-15 mins or you barely break even, and the NHS withdraws your contract and gives it to someone who will work at that speed.

The underlying problem is that the NHS is (or was) essentially an example of socialized medicine, which cannot exist within a capitalist environment. Socialized medicine says "free healthcare for all at the point of delivery", but capitalism says "yeah right, you and what never ending pot of money". In capitalism, individuals are only given what they can pay for. Patients are turned into customers. Recession has lead to much privatization by the back door, because open privatization of the NHS would be political suicide. Now, NHS patients contribute towards the cost of dental treatment, prescriptions, etc out of their own pocket, on top of their original tax contributions, some of which funds the NHS.

People like you do annoy NHS workers a lot, because you have no idea just how much of a good situation you are in to even still have the NHS. You complain about something which you barely pay for. If you don'd like it, go private, or go to pretty much any other country in the world and see how you miss the NHS when you see how much medical insurance actually costs, or worse still get landed with a hospital bill when you are uninsured. And don't even get me started on the hypocrisy if you happen to be claiming welfare, and therefore are exempt form NHS treatment charges and don't contribute to your society in taxes.

Further to my comments above, I note that you made this "conspiracy" edit at 16:30, when the average working day finishes at 17:00. If you have leisure internet access at work, then good for you, but otherwise if you happen to be unemployed, benefits claiming, expecting the state to feed you and your family, etc. then kindly reflect on the unintended irony which underlies your comment. 194.42.240.60 (talk) 23:04, 22 June 2014 (UTC)
