Inner Worlds, Outer Worlds is a documentary film created by Canadian film maker and meditation teacher Daniel Schmidt. The film examines various aspects of life, the universe, spirituality and the natural unseen links between them. The film was released in 2012 and juxtaposes ancient teachings alongside modern scientific findings, drawing conclusions about certain aspects of the universe and the vibratory field.

The film was released for free online. It has been narrated in English, French, Spanish, German and Hindi and there are subtitles for 17 languages. The film received over 2 million online views in its first year of release.[citation needed] The movie won a number of awards at film festivals, including the Award of Excellence at the Canada International Film Festival.

Background

The film's creator Daniel Schmidt is a Canadian film maker and is also known as a musician and meditation teacher. The film Inner Worlds Outer Worlds could be described as a reflection on his own experiences with meditation. Schmidt's own inner investigation and his ongoing research led him to realise that his experiences and spiritual traditions from around the world have common similarities. This allowed him to realise that there is one common source which is at the root of all traditions.[1]

Schmidt and his wife Eva Dametto run the Breathe True Yoga Center in Ontario, Canada.[2] which led them to together to research many of the points made throughout the film. Schmidt studied various forms of meditation before making the film including, the traditions of Buddhism, Taoism and the Yogic traditions of India. He also studied various mystical traditions from various cultures, aimed at increasing his own knowledge.[1]

Production

The film was created by Schmidt with support from his wife Dametto. Schmidt wrote the screenplay, composed an original music score, created the fractal flame imagery, directed, edited, produced and funded the film. The film was a synthesis of his journey in life, utilizing his background in philosophy and his experience in the television, music and animation industries. These skills complimented his personal enthusiasm for meditation.

Dametto is a performing and visual artist, a teacher of chakra and hatha yoga, and an expressive arts practitioner. She was involved in the shaping and editing process and also created and performed some of the mantras in the film.

The film incorporates unique footage of water vibration from German cymatics researcher Alexander Lauterwasser, illustrating the vibratory nature of the universe. The 2012 confirmation of the existence of the Higgs Boson or the "God Particle" was incorporated as timely scientific proof that what we think of as emptiness is not empty at all. This is the same realisation that ancient yogis came to thousands of years earlier. The film also includes animation footage from fractal expert Jock Cooper as well as music from the Australian musician Indiajiva.

During the production of the film, Daniel and Eva decided that it would be released for free for the benefit of humanity.[3]

Synopsis

The film examines the vibratory field that connects all things. The vibratory field has been given a variety of names over the ages, including, Akasha, Logos, the primordial OM, the music of the spheres, the Higgs field, dark energy to name a few.[4]

The field is said to be the root of all spiritual experience and all scientific investigation. It is the energy that Buddhas, Saints, Yogis and other spiritual individuals have observed within themselves. Many of the great thinkers in history such as Pythagoras, Johannes Kepler, Leonardo DaVinci, Nikola Tesla, and Albert Einstein have studied and observed the field, as they moved closer to the great mystery of our existence.[4]

The film is broken down into 4 parts. Part 1 is "Akasha" and explores the one source that extends through all things. Part 2 is "The Spiral" which explores the logarithmic spiral pattern that extends all the way from our DNA to the spiral arms of galaxies. Part 3 is "The Serpent and the Lotus" which examines the ancient symbols that reflect the awakening of human potential. Part 4 is "Beyond Thinking" which conveys a new paradigm for humanity to move beyond ego-based thought.

Inner Worlds, Outer Worlds received positive reviews for its unique take on the universe and a rating of 8.3/10 from 275 reviews on IMDb,[4] and also received positive reviews in the media. The website letterboxd, reviewed the film and gave it 10/10.[5] In July 2013 Inner Worlds Outer Worlds was listed on TopDocumentaryFilms.com.[6]

It was the winner of Award of Excellence for the International Film Festival for Spirituality, Religion and Vision in Indonesia, and winner for Best Feature Documentary in the DIY Film Festival, California.
