Dr. Yvonne T. Maddox, Ph.D. is the Acting Director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD).

The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The stated mission of the NIMHD is to “lead scientific research to improve minority health and eliminate health disparities.”[1] It was established as an NIH center, the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NCMHD), in 2000, by the passage of the Minority Health and Health Disparities Research and Education Act.[2] On September 13, 2010 the NCMHD transitioned to full institute status, becoming the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), under the Affordable Care Act.[3] NIMHD was under the direction of Dr. John Ruffin, Ph.D. from 2001 to March 2014.[4] Dr. Yvonne T. Maddox, Ph.D. became the Acting Director in April 2014.
