Gear VR is a virtual reality device developed by Samsung in collaboration with Oculus VR. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is used as the screen and driving computer, mounted inside the Gear VR device.[1] Like Google Cardboard, Gear VR has no display itself. But unlike Cardboard, Gear VR has multiple input methods and a headband to keep the device on people's heads. The Gear VR was first announced on September 3, 2014. The Gear VR and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 creates a totally independent system, with no interfacing needed with external devices (contrast with the Occulus Rift that requires a PC for computations) making it a truly mobile system. [2] It features a touchpad on the right side, a volume rocker, and a back button which are interfaced to the Note 4 via micro-usb, not by wireless means. [3]
