Another Day Another Life is a 2009 American suspense thriller flick produced, edited and directed by Rohit Gupta.[1] It's about a man, Jason, played by Benjamin Jacobs,[2] who struggles to repress his killer instinct as he approaches the planned killing of his lover. The film was selected to showcase at the Short Film Corner - Cannes Film Festival 2009. It received high critical acclaim at its international festival run winning several awards & accolades.[3]

Plot

Another Day Another Life is a snappy and a thrilling film about a man's tryst with his destiny in his bad economic times. For a young man in New York City, his job, his investments, his dwelling and most importantly his love is what keeps him going until the day he loses all of them at once. Downsized and desperate, he struggles with his desire for revenge and figuring out what really matters in the grand scheme of life as he makes himself a list.

Production

Another Day Another Life is a result of Rohit Gupta's first film assignment at the New York Film Academy. The program structure mandate was to make a narrative film without dialogues in less than five minutes.[5] GiriMohan Coneti, the writer of the film in response to an advertisement initially submitted ten lines of the concept. The film was shot in guerilla style in seven hours using Panasonic AG-DVX100, edited on Gupta's Mac Book Pro and put together in $100.[6] Gupta met Peter Roessler, the music composer of the film who at the time worked at a local Starbucks situated at the 14th Street – Union Square In New York City where Gupta frequented after his classes. In an unusual format the film was edited mainly on the basis of its music.

Another Day Another Life was acquired for digital distribution by Pocket Films, India's largest aggregator and distributor of alternate content.[7] On September 11, 2014 NDTV Prime - India's prime national television channel broadcasted the film nationwide.[8][9]

Critical reception

The film was selected to showcase at the Short Film Corner - Cannes 2009. A review from the Judges of the MIX International Shorts Film Festival said, Another Day Another Life is a remarkably fast pace film, the action never slows or halts. The title is an excellent one that implies so many different things. There is no question this a compelling short film[10]
