JPL (JPL Integrated Communications, Inc.) is a strategic, integrated communications company, based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.[1][2] The company creates communications solutions for businesses and organizations, offering services such as: branding,[3] marketing, meeting and event production and coordination,[4] web development,[5][6][7] video production, and Learning Solutions.[8]

History

JPL (formerly JPL Video Productions and then JPL Productions) was established in 1989 when co-founders Michael Horgan and Christian Masters purchased the Video Productions Department from J.P. Lilley in Harrisburg. They formed a new company called “JPL Video Productions.” [9] At first, there were only three employees, but by 1993, the company had signed on its 15th employee and relocated to a new facility, complete with a production studio, three studio-configured cameras, a cyclorama, and a control room. In 1995, JPL demonstrated its flexibility and technological capabilities by establishing the “Interactive Technologies Group.” [10] They also launched a company website (www.jplprod.com),[11] and purchased state-of-the-art digital video effects and editing equipment.

By 1999, JPL had expanded its Multimedia Services to accommodate the company’s growing web, multimedia, and e-Learning sectors. In 2000, they merged with York-based production company, Kennedy/Lee, and brought on board three experienced video professionals. When web development company MarginPoint joined JPL in 2002,[12][13] the company added web application development and e-Marketing to its list of services. That same year, JPL was named one of the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania by the Central Penn Business Journal -–an honor they would receive for the next seven years, distinguishing JPL as one of only six companies across the state to win the award that many consecutive years.[14][15][16]

2004 saw major changes for the company. That year, JPL purchased an 88,000-square-foot (8,200 m2), two-story facility which, in addition to accommodating the growing staff, housed two video and photography studios.[17] The internal structure of JPL underwent some renovation as well when former JPL President Michael Horgan assumed the new position of Executive Chairman, and former Vice President Luke Kempski stepped up into the role of President.[18][19] The company also expanded its 3-D graphics, animation, and simulation technologies, and implemented HD video technology for several full-length videos and commercials. The following year(2005), the new building opened for business and the company was selected as one of the 50 Fastest Growing Companies in Pennsylvania by the Central Penn Business Journal.[20]

In 2007, JPL was featured in CNN’s Business 2.0 magazine for encouraging employees to decorate the new building in order to showcase their collective creative abilities and also to build company morale.[21] That same year, the company created The Communications Vault, a blog authored by various employees that provides advice and professional insight on a variety of communications and marketing topics.[22]

In 2008, JPL Productions was named one of the Top 5,000 Fastest Growing Companies in the nation by INC. Magazine.[23][24] On September 15, 2008, JPL Productions launched its new brand identity and became simply “JPL.” The change was the product of a two-year initiative to position the company as a strategic, integrated communications company rather than a media production house.[25][26]

In 2009, JPL was named Website Design Company of the Year by the Central Penn Business Journal and listed as one of Inc. Magazine's Top 5,000 Fastest Growing Companies>

JPL has been recognized on the Central Penn Business Journal's list of the Best Places to Work in PA for many consecutive years.
