Jenny Han is an American writer of children and teen novels. She was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia and went to college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.[1] She earned her MFA in creative writing at the New School.[2]
Publication history
Her first book, Shug, published in 2006, was written while she was in college.[3] Shug is about Annemarie Wilcox, a twelve-year-old trying to navigate the perils of junior high school. Publishers Weekly said of the novel, "With its distinct Southern flavor, its presentation of universal conflicts and a cast of characters sure to be recognizable to readers, this book will likely draw a wide audience."[4]
Her next project was a trilogy for young adults, with the first book being entitled The Summer I Turned Pretty. The Summer I Turned Pretty, along with the other two books in the series, It's Not Summer Without You and We'll Always Have Summer, quickly became New York Times bestsellers.[5]
In 2011, Han began working on a new YA series with fellow YA writer Siobhan Vivian about three high school girls who begin a mission to exact revenge on people who have wronged them. According to Han, Han and Vivian "have been BFFs and writing buddies for years now. We’ve always traded our own pages back and forth, so this is a pretty natural progression for us."[3] The first book of the series, Burn For Burn, was published in 2011. The second book, Fire With Fire, came out in 2012. Since it is a trilogy, the last book, Ashes To Ashes, will be released in mid-September of 2014.
In April 2014, Han published a new book called To All the Boys I've Loved Before, about Lara Jean Song Covey, a half-Korean high school girl whose life turns upside down when the letters she's written to all the boys she's had crushes on get sent out.[6] Kirkus Reviews said of the book: "An ultimately compelling exploration of teenage growth and young love."[7]
In 2014, Han embarked on a national book tour, with planned stops in Richmond, VA; Chapel Hill, NC; New York, NY; Washington, D.C.; Raleigh, NC; and Houston, TX.[8]
Han currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.[9]
