The Vedāṅga Jyotiṣa, or Jyotiṣavedāṅga (Devanagari वेदाङ्ग ज्योतिष) is the earliest known Indian text on astronomy and astrology (Jyotisha), dated to 1400-1200 BCE (with the extant form possibly from 700-600 BCE).[1][1] According to Michael Witzel, the extant text is dated to the final centuries BCE,[2]

It was redacted by Lagadha (Sanskrit: लगध, IPA: [ləɡəd̪ʱə]), who was, as per Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya[3] and others,[4][5][6][7][8] from Kashmir.

The text is foundational to the Vedanga discipline of Jyotisha.
