The most stunning of the Diadema Family it was discovered by William (Bill) Palmer in about 50m of water off the Poor Knights Islands(35º28´S 174º44´E) a group off the North East Coast of New Zealand. Also found in other sub-tropical regions around the globe including Australia's lower east coast - off Danger Point to Montague Is. NSW (at about 200m), Lord Howe Island and the Norfolk Island Ridge.
