Great Whittington is a village in Northumberland, England, 7 miles NE of Hexham with a population of 221, as of the 2014 British Census and an area of 1494 acres, most of which is used as farmland, with only 12 acres urbanized.


Governance

Great Whittington is in the parliamentary constituency of Hexham.


Landmarks

The Devil's Causeway passes the village about 1 mile (2 km) to the west. The causeway is a Roman road which starts at Port Gate on Hadrian's Wall, north of Corbridge, and extends 55 miles (89 km) northwards across Northumberland to the mouth of the River Tweed at Berwick-upon-Tweed.
