Abby Lee Miller (born September 21, 1966) is a dance instructor, choreographer, and the director and owner of Reign Dance Productions. She is the founder and chief choreographer of the Abby Lee Dance Company She is also the face of weight watchers and the reality television series Dance Moms.

Early Life

Abby Lee Miller was born to George L Miller and Maryen Lorrain Miller. Her mother operated a dance studio. During her school years, Abby studied dance and choreography [1] During her school years she also participated in ski club, Girl Scouts, was in charm school, and took clarinet lessons.

Career in reality television

In 2011, Miller began to appear in the Lifetime reality television show[2] Dance Moms.[3] The show follows young students, and in particular Maddie Ziegler, at The Abby Lee Dance Company in their pursuit to become better dancers. In the show, Miller usees the technique of training new dancers to compete against her former students, to motivate them to become better dancers themselves. In the show Miller frequently interacts belligerently with the young dancers and their mothers.[4][5] Two of the new spin-offs of Dance Moms are Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition[6][7] and Dance Moms: Abby's Studio Rescue. Miller has also been a guest judge on Dancing with the Stars (U.S. season 18).[8][9]

In 2014, Miller published a book, Everything I Learned about Life, I Learned in Dance Class.[citation needed]

In 2015 she and some of the young dancers from her show were filmed on a tour of dance studios in Australia.[10]
