Eric LeCompte is a commentator on politics, finance and religion.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23] Since 1994, LeCompte has led religious organizations to advocate for transparency, human rights and development efforts.[24] He is the current executive director of Jubilee USA Network.[25][26][27][28]

Early life and Career

LeCompte was raised a devout Catholic on the Southside of Chicago.[37] He was the national organizer for the civil rights organization School of the America's Watch.[38][39][40][41][42][43][44][45][46] LeCompte is the former national council chair of Pax Christi USA and directed, consulted and advised a series of faith-based organizations since 1994.[47] He serves on expert working groups for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.[48] He is the executive director of Jubilee USA Network, a religious anti-poverty coalition.[49][50][51][52]

LeCompte is a central expert and proponent of a global bankruptcy system for countries. LeCompte advised the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development[53] to create a guide for global bankruptcy: "Sovereign Debt Workouts: Going Forward, Roadmap and Guide."[54] After the United Nations General Assembly voted to create a global bankruptcy process for sovereign countries,[55] LeCompte presented to the United Nations on initial steps to create a working process.[56] He has presented how global bankruptcy will work to the International Bar Association insolvency section.[57][58]

After Grenada defaulted on its debt,[59] LeCompte advised religious leaders in Grenada and met private creditors, government officials and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to secure a debt restructuring that limits austerity plans.[60][61][62][63][64][65]
