The article is talking about Basic Income as it's been defined by Wikipedia. I can see the above commenter's reasons for not merging it into Guaranteed Minimum Income, however that article now refers to conditioned programs where an applicant doesn't qualify under regular unemployment insurance schemes. This article however deals entirely with Basic Income (UBI or Negative Income Tax) and the Mincome expriments in Manitoba. Having another article with a confusing name is not helpful so it should be renamed or merged into 'Basic Income in Canada' - 109.79.88.221 (talk) 22:56, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

I can see how this article title is confusing. But the lead clearly states that it is Canada specific. I honestly don't think canada needs its own article for its Basic income proposals, but it definitely doesn't need two articles. Let's merge this one with Basic income in Canada. (I think that's what the anonymous user above meant).

Merger with Guaranteed Minimum Income

The two articles should definitely be merged. However they should be merged into the older article, "Guaranteed Minimum Income", not into this one. The term "Guaranteed Annual Income" is similar to the term "Guaranteed Monthly Income", "Guaranteed Weekly Income" or "Guaranteed Daily Income" and makes one wonder what the frequency of payment has to do with anything. Particularly since it is not addressed at all in this article. As it happens the only examples of implementation given are guaranteed monthly incomes, not guaranteed annual incomes. Hence the reason that it would be better to merge this with the "guaranteed minimum income" or the "basic income" article. -- Derek Ross | Talk 04:11, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Guaranteed Annual Income is a proposal in Canada of a Guaranteed Minimum Income disbursed on an annual basis. I'm switching the direction of the merge. Johnathlon (talk) 00:49, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

After attempting a merge, it has become clear to me that a merge is inappropriate. This article is best understood to be a documentation of ongoing canadian proposals of both guaranteed minimum income and basic income. I am going to change the introduction to reflect that this is a Canada specific article and therefore not in need of globalization. Johnathlon (talk) 05:15, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Criticisms could use a rewrite

The final paragraph especially, there's a lot of POV sentiment expressed, even the use of quotation marks is simply a thinly veiled attempt at making it seem more NPOV than it really is. After all, Wikipedia is not a forum for debate. -70.66.90.57 (talk) 03:07, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Needs to be renamed 'Basic Income in Canada' or perhaps 'Guaranteed Annual Income in Canada'
