Evolution of Combat IV or EoCIV is a total conversion mod for the game Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy following on from the previous version of the mod, Evolution of Combat III.[3] The focus of the mod is to improve lightsaber combat and provide a new class system which keeps the game movie accurate and stops players choosing weapons that their characters would not have in the Star Wars universe. [4][5]

Launching on the 17th December 2015[1], Evolution of Combat IV runs on a modified version of the id Tech 3 Engine named "Serenity Jedi Engine" which is designed to improve the way the combat system works in-game[2][6]. Along with the updated engine, the mod also updates many existing game features such as dialogue, character models, story and effects[7]. As a result of the source codes of Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast being released[8] in the closure of Lucasarts[9], the developers of Evolution of Combat IV were able to port a lot of Jedi Outcast's code into the code of Jedi Academy, helping to improve the game's stability and performance. Combining the codes of the two games allowed for greater features to be added to the existing features of Jedi Academy and the saber combat to be extended further than before.
