h3h3 Productions is an American YouTube comedy channel produced by husband and wife team Ethan and Hila Klein that has amassed over one million subscribers as of March 2016.[2] The channel's content has been described as a cross between the works of comedy duo Tim & Eric and the TV series Mystery Science Theater 3000, mostly consisting of Ethan's reaction to an online video intermixed with absurd sketches.[3] The channel has gained a reputation for criticizing certain Internet trends and personalities,[4] including the Fine Brothers, the Fullscreen network, Sam Pepper, and copyright infringement on Facebook, as well as the policies of YouTube itself.[5][6][7] Often times the pair will comment on or participate in online controversies.[5] The couple runs a second channel named Ethan and Hila, on which they make simpler reaction videos and vlogs five times a week.[8]

History

The channel released its first reaction video of the video poem "Girls Who Read" in November 2013. The video was made when the couple lived in Israel.[3] In April 2015, the Kleins moved to the United States, where they now reside in New York City.[9] The channel joined the Freedom! network after leaving Collective Digital Studio in August 2015. The couple has collaborated with other YouTube personalities, including "Filthy Frank" and Jon Jafari (of JonTron).[10][11] Since October 2015, Hila Klein is working as a producer on JonTron.[12][13]

Beginning in late 2015, the channel experienced a rapid growth in viewership, fueled by frequent exposure on Reddit, and in January 2016 it was named "YouTube channel of the Year" by Reddit's /r/videos community.[14]

In March 2016, New Jersey based comedian Jimmie Lee appeared in a video on their second channel, after previously being a subject of their reaction videos.[15]
