Talısh (Armenian: Թալիշ, Azerbaijani: Talış) is a village in Martakert Region of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (de facto) and in the Tartar Rayon of Azerbaijan (de jure). It has been under Armenian control since the 1994 ceasefire.

The village was severely damaged during 2016 Armenian–Azerbaijani clashes.

History

Several historical Armenian Christian monuments are situated in Talysh, including the Horeka (Glkho) monastery (5th century) with numerous khachkars placed in the walls and the vestibule, and Surb Astvadzadzin church (1894).[2][3]

On April 11, 1994 the Karabakh forces retaked Talysh, securing the village of Gulistan.[4]

Azerbaijani army took control over the village on the 2nd of April 2016. Armenian and international reporters announced that after Talysh was retaken by Armenian troops, an elderly Armenian couple had been found shot in their home and their corpses had been mutilated. According to these reports, Azerbaijani soldiers also killed another elderly woman.[5][6][7]
