Rafael Augusto Sóbis born (17 June 1985) in Erechim, Brazil) is a Brazilian footballer who plays as a forward for SC Internacional.
He started in the youth categories of Internacional and quickly won a place in the first team. Sóbis scored 19 goals in 35 matches in the 2004 season at the age of 19. In the following year, he was one of the main players in the Internacional squad that finished the Brazilian League in second place, and was selected by the CBF to play in the All Star team by the end of the season.
The 2006 season started slowly for him, who fought a series of injuries. He eventually recovered his place in the first team and helped Inter secure the Libertadores title by scoring twice the first-leg final match against São Paulo. One day after Internacional won the title at home, Sóbis was called up by the Brazilian national football team coach Dunga to play against Argentina and Wales in September 2006.
His transfer rights have allegedly been sold to a Spanish Primera Liga club, most likely Real Betis. He was previously tipped to sign with AC Milan, which are still searching for a striker and picked out Sóbis as a possible target to replace star Andriy Shevchenko, now at Chelsea FC.
Trivia
