The Lumbriculidae are a family of microdrile oligochaetes common in fresh-water environments, including streams, lakes, marshes, wells and ground-water. They should not be confused with the earthworm family Lumbricidae. Many species and even genera are highly endemic, mainly in Siberia and the western parts of North America.
The family currently contains the following genera and species:
- Bichaeta (one species)
- Cookidrilus (one species)
- Eclipidrilus (eight species)
- Subgenus Eclipidrilus
- Subgenus Leptodrilus
- Subgenus Premnodrilus
- Insertia sedis
- Eclipidrils pacificus - this species reportedly exists in three "variants".
- Eremidrilus (five species)
- Eumuliercula (two species)
- Guestphalinus (one species)
- Hrabea (one species)
- Kincaidiana (two species)
- Lamprodrilus (twenty-four species)
- Subgenus Lamprodrilus
- Lamprodrilus achaetus
- Lamprodrilus ammophagus
- Lamprodrilus bulbosus
- Lamprodrilus wagneri
- Lamprodrilus mrazeki
- Lamprodrilus nigrescens
- Lamprodrilus pygmaeus with five subspecies
- Lamprodrilus isoporus with two subspecies
- Lamprodrilus michaelseni
- Lamprodrilus bythius
- Lamprodrilus satyriscus with four subspecies
- Lamprodrilus melanotus
- Lamprodrilus pallidus
- Lamprodrilus dybowskyi
- Lamprodrilus inflatus

- Lumbriculus variegatus (California blackworm)
- Lumbriculus ambiguus
- Lumbriculus multiatriatus
- Lumbriculus genitosetosus

- Lumbriculus alexandrovi
- Lumbriculus kareliensis
- Lumbriculus illex
- Lumbriculus kolymensis
- Lumbriculus tetraporophorus
- Lumbriculus japonicus
- Lumbriculus mukoensis
Note that *Lumbriculus lineatus and *Lumbriculus codensis, which are sometime seen on the internet, do not exist; both species belong to the Enchytraeid genus Lumbricillus, and ITIS (and other similar reports) have simply written the wrong genus. The old genus Thinodrilus is presently considered to be a part of Lumbriculus, but may have subgeneric status. If so, it contains (at least) the species L. ambiguus, L. inconstans and L. genitosetosus. The status of many of the Lumbriculus species listed above is uncertain.
