Request for Comment:Fair Use
Hello - just to introduce myself - i'm moscow american. An american who loves the former soviet union :)

I looked at some of your edits, and thought you maybe able to help.

I am considering creating Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Fair Use and I was interested in suggestions on how to go about this, and editors who I can talk to about building this page before it goes live. Any suggestions would be most helpful. Moscowamerican (talk) 16:05, 18 November 2017 (UTC)

Revision as of 16:05, 18 November 2017

Hi, I believe that the main picture on the Hillsborough County, FL page should be changed from Fort Foster to something else. The image is quite dull and colorless, plus it's not really impressive photography. Furthermore, Fort Foster is not even managed by Hillsborough County, but rather the state of Florida. I propose that we replace this image with a nice picture of the rapids of the Hillsborough River, which happens to be located in Hillsborough River State Park along with Ft. Foster, but is much more scenic. Here is the image, which I captured myself in June 2015. Please let me know why we can't use it.

(talk page stalker) Hi, Slapp9. I was passing by my friend Jacona's talk page and thought I'd add some input here. First, when you start a new topic on a talk page, even a blank one, you should give it a heading. The easiest way to do this is to click the new section button. If the topic is a specific article, you should leave a wikilink to it.
That being said, I don't think either the existing photo of the fort or the one you propose of the rapids are particularly good for the infobox. They are both too generic. They could be a fort or rapids anywhere. The photo in the info box should be identifying of the subject of the article. Many times, it is actually a photo of a welcome sign. If the county had an iconic landmark, that would be a good photo (I'd say the Sunshine Skyway, but that is shared with Manatee County). Frequently, it is a photo montage, and that would probably be the best choice here. In any case, content discussion is best held on the article's talk page, not an editor's. You can use the ping function to call particular editor's attention to the conversation just like I pinged you here. Hope my chipping in my 2¢ is ok with you, Jacona! I appreciate your input, John from Idegon, thanks. I'd note that the while the Sunshine Skyway is in Hillsborough, it connects Pinellas and Manatee, so most folks don't even realize that it's Hillsborough! Slapp9, don't you think this discussion would be more appropriate on the article's talk page? I'm not at all invested in either photo, I'd think something else would be better, maybe a Tampa skyline, RayJay, SunDome? Jacona (talk) 23:42, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This Sounds kind of Racist...

The following page for Pillow Academy in Greenwood , MS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillow_Academy) has a comment of "It was founded by white parents in 1966 as a segregation academy to avoid having their children attend school with blacks." Is there a way to make this sound less racist. Many of the Staff members of the school and even families that let their children attend this school have had complaints about this. Much thanks in advanced for any help! - Techycloud (talk) 18:05, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly does sound racist, because that's what it was. We can only change the present, so let's do that and move forward in positive ways. We don't do that by wishing it had been different and rewriting history to cast the past in a kinder light, but by remembering the flaws and working to make today better. Thanks for your interest, and for your help! Jacona (talk) 18:55, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
