Blinky Bill the Movie is a 2015 computer-animated adventure-comedy film based on the Blinky Bill character, an anthropomorphic koala created by Dorothy Wall for a children's book series in 1933. The film was produced by Flying Bark Productions (formerly known as Yoram Gross Films Studio, which also produced Blinky Bill: The Mischievous Koala, a 1992 traditional-animated film featuring the character), and co-produced by Assemblage Entertainment (India) and Telegael (Ireland).[2]

The film was followed by a 26-episode TV series, The Wild Adventures of Blinky Bill that aired on Seven Network.[3]

Plot

In the town of Greenpatch in Australia, Blinky Bill (Ryan Kwanten) tells the story about his father, Bill Koala (Richard Roxburgh), an explorer. He and his wife Betty Koala (Deborah Mailman) say goodbye and Blinky's dad travels to the Sea of White Dragons. He tells Blinky to look after to his mum and that he'll be back soon. Then Blinky and his friends Splodge (Cam Ralph), Robert (Cam Ralph), and Marcia (Charlotte Rose Hamlyn) see Mayor Wilberforce Cranklepot the Goanna (Barry Otto). Betty warns Blinky not to get worried about Cranklepot and to behave. They go to a meeting, where Cranklepot tells what he found at Greenpatch, warns that he is going to become the new king and rename Greenpatch to "Goannasburg", but Blinky sneaks away and sabotages the meeting using fruit bombs, in the process destroying a statue of Cranklepot, causing to Cranklepot chase Blinky who heads to the big rainforest. Blinky sees a mark that his dad had left, but Cranklepot grabs him and drags him back to Blinky's house to Betty. Cranklepot warns Blinky he'll will be sealing up Greenpatch from the outside world and he will turn their tree into his castle, saying they should start packing, that when he comes back they better have moved out. Betty scolds Blinky, but Blinky argues with her, saying they should go save his father as Cranky will seal off the valley and they will be trapped, but Betty tells Blinky that his father's not in the desert and that she wanted to go. Blinky is very upset with his mother he yells at her that he'll never see him again, that his father never gives up, running back to his room. Betty knocks on the door, and tells him to give himself a message from her, but Blinky doesn't listen to his mother.

The next day Blinky runs away to try to find his father. He arrives at a store called Koala Joe's Roadhouse and tries to find food. He tries to get some water, then hears banging on the door. He meets the feral cat Sir Claude (Rufus Sewell), who is trying to catch a meat eater koala. He attacks Blinky, but Blinky escapes, hitching a ride on a van and setting off the fireworks in the store. On the van Blinky meets a female koala in a cage. He finds out the van is heading to a zoo. He sees a tunnel, and panics, thinking it will eat them. He pushes the female koala's cage out of the van, breaking it in the process. The female koala, named Nutsy (Robin McLeavy) is furious with him, and tries to chase after the van. Blinky offers to take Nutsy to the zoo. Sir Claude sees the broken cage and follows them. Back at Greenpatch, Blinky's friends Splodge, Robert, and Marcia fool his mother into thinking Blinky is still in his room, until Robert messes up and Betty realises Blinky is gone.
