despite the suffix "ol", "furfurol" is the old name for the aldehyde, not the alcohol
Furfurol, despite possibly having a similar pronunciation, would refer not to furfural, an aldehyde, but furfuryl alcohol, in the same sense that propanol is not a synonym for propanal but one for propyl alcohol.
