==[[Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Dyslexic Agnostic]]==
Yikes, my take. Well, I just blocked Dyslexic for personal attacks. I did hope this would sort itself out, but I think the meat of the issue is that eventually they will both have to be banned from editing articles in which they engage in edit warring, or they'll both have to be banned full stop. Neither of them seems to be able to collaborate with each other, although of the two DA seems the more able to collaborate with others. T-Man's edits are not usually aimed at collaborating but at getting across his own methodology, whilst DA seems to have a compulsion to blindly revert T-Man's every edit. It can't go on much longer. *I'm just looking at the history of [[List of Batman: The Animated Series episodes]], and thinking that the two of them should be banned from that article for a week or two. What do you reckon? I think the only fair thing to do is to ban them both, there's no need for the personal attacks and edit summaries of DA, and edit warring is frowned upon and they were both placed on probation for disrupting articles. Hi Titoxd, I noticed when you close keep-AFDs you add the <nowiki>{{oldafdfull}}</nowiki> tag under the heading "== Old AFD Full==". == User advice ==

I'm not sure what exactly to do with a couple things I saw today, so I thought best to ask someone who has the admin mop and more experience than me. [[User:Storm05|Storm05]] created [[Tropical Storm Hanna (2002)]] after copy/pasting it from a subpage. I speedy-tagged it for a history merge and that problem was sorted. However when I explained the purpose of the tag to him, I think it wasn't understood and given what else he did at about that time, I think pretty much all his articles are copy/pastes. The second thing is [[User:HurricaneCraze32|HurricaneCraze32]] uploaded this post-hurricane damage [[:Image:Iris-2001-damage.jpg|image]]. The site in question does not seem to have any copyright information, but he initially tagged it as GFDL-licensed. Hink has removed that since, I think there is certainly a fair use case for that particular image, is that right? Anyway, that raised my interest and looked at his other [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=upload&user=HurricaneCraze32 uploads], and see plenty of PD-NOAA tagged images and other GFDL-tagged images. The NOAA pics are fine but the GFDL ones dodgy. I'm not sure what to do about those incorrectly tagged images, may be best to delete them, its possible to get PD ones of road signs I'm sure. I guess both users need the relevant things explained to them to stop them carrying on, but I'm not sure what to say really. Could you go do that and maybe give me some advice on how to deal with this kind of stuff? As for the mess they have left behind, that could keep you busy for a bit...--[[User:Nilfanion|Nilfanion]] ([[User talk:Nilfanion|talk]]) 22:58, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for closing the SWU afd. I was wondering, there are some AfDs from July 2 (star wars lists and whatnot) that need to be closed. ==Topic priorities for release versions==

Hi, Tito. I had an idea related to [[User:Silence|Silence]]'s idea about assigning priorites of importance to articles considered for Version 0.5. I think the general idea of priority levels for topics is good, regardless of how much acceptance or agreement happens at 0.5.

But I'm thinking there might be a more efficient way to do it, mainly by using a larger set of numbers to designate the priorities, and also with a scale that is somewhat less relative. By that I mean that each priority level would correspond to a set of some defined number. Here are a couple of examples.

One option is based on powers of 10.
*Priority level 1 -- The 10 most important items.
*Level 2 -- The 11th to 100th most important items.
*3 -- The 101st to 1000th most important items, and so on.

Another option is based on doubling.*Priority set 100 -- The 100 most important items.
*Set 200 -- The 101st to 200th most important items.
*400 -- The 201st to 400th most important items, and so on.

These could be set up by continuing in the same vein as the core topics or with categories or both. Categories could allow subcategories, such as "the art articles within level x."

[[User:Walkerma|Walkerma]] mentioned a four-level scale already in use. But that only designates priorities within a given Wikiproject. The idea proposed here could apply to an article, and help put them in context with each other. [[User:Maurreen|Maurreen]] 12:10, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

:I also put a similar note [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team#Topic_priorities at the main team talk page]. [[User:Maurreen|Maurreen]] 15:37, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Seeing that NSLE has basically left and I think hink has gotten annoyed with this enough, I thought I'd ask you this; Do you think my articles on [[Typhoon Aere (2004)]] and [[Hurricane Dolly (1996)]] in my sandbox are ready for publication as their own articles? If Dolly is published, I think I'll still work on it, but there really isn't much more info. So what do you think? And if you have time, could you give them a nice copyedit? == Track maps ==

Don't mistake the fact that I've managed to get the program working and mess around with the code with actual competence, I'd rate myself as a beginner. I haven't really looked in any real detail at the source or attempted to understand it yet, so I don't know if its beyond me or not. Jdorje was good on adding useful comments to the source so I could easily see how to change the things I wanted to. In any case thing about toolserver seems interesting, what exactly would that involve and what would we get as an end result?

Oh and another thing could you look over [[Commons:Template:Hurricane auto track map]]? I played with it slightly to see if I could get the images assigned to the [[Commons:Category:Tropical cyclone tracks|commons category]] with some logic. I tested it on [[Commons:Image:Epsilon (2005) track.png]] and it worked fine. However I'm concerned about storms which are not of the form {type} {name}, [[1947 Fort Lauderdale hurricane]] for example. Its probably best to leave those as they are currently and that also doesn't break the old track maps before I update them. It seems like a switch on the template is the best solution there as that allows both the current arrangement and a split into {type} {name} when easily doable; could you do that? It may be possible to some more with the unnamed storms, but seeing how I'm going to upload the named storms first anyway, one thing at a time. (Not least because I'll have to mess with the script to correct its automagic suggestions).--[[User:Nilfanion|Nilfanion]] ([[User talk:Nilfanion|talk]]) 12:02, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

== AMS Journal Pictures: PD, Fair Use, or No Use? ==

Me and HurricaneHink were talking about this issue twice (once involving the picture of Hurricane Fifi and most recently involving a picture of Henri of 79, both of which are in AMS documents). Some documents are the same as the ones Hink got the pictures for the 1977-78 and 80-82 pictures from and others are the same as the documents I got my pictures from (such as Hurricanes Dora and Hilda). Are pictures from AMS journals fair use?

Also, I found a part of AMS' FAQ page that answers on needing written permission to use excerpts, but we're unsure if this applies to pictures. The excerpt is on the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:1979_Atlantic_hurricane_season|talk page]] for the 79 Atlantic season under "Images". Thanks!

== Track maps ==

There's a couple housekeeping tasks which I'm not sure how to go about with having updated the entire [[Commons:Category:Tropical cyclone tracks|Commons category]]. The 2006 Pacific storms are all hosted incorrectly on here and not Commons. In addition to those 2006's Alberto has ''three'' copies on commons of its image: [[Commons:Image:Alberto 2006 track.png]], [[Commons:Image:Alberto 2006 track2.png]] and [[Commons:Image:Alberto 2006 track.jpg]]. I know the first is the one which should be recolored, but should the others be deleted first? Also, [[Commons:Image:1926 Nassau hurricane track.png]] was created as a new file instead of being over the old one: [[Commons:Image:1926 Nassau Hurricane track.png]]. That's another redundant file which needs to go... Should I put them those 4 images up for deletion on commons? And what do I want to do about the 2006 Pacific storms - get them on commons then recolor?--[[User:Nilfanion|Nilfanion]] ([[User talk:Nilfanion|talk]]) 14:41, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
:When you said "Copy the revisions", did you mean copy all versions of the images over or just all revisions of the image description (if it changed)? The only Alberto in use is the "correct" one, but the others aren't ''exact'' duplicates so do they need to go through the commons deletion process now? As for the Nassau pic thats sorted...--[[User:Nilfanion|Nilfanion]] ([[User talk:Nilfanion|talk]]) 16:06, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
::Jeeze I didn't realise just how awful this looks like turning out to be. I've copied [[:Image:Aletta 2006 track.png|Aletta's map]] over to [[Commons:Image:Aletta 2006 track.png|Commons]] and tagged the image with NowCommonsThis. However I'm concerned about the "''Please always include the complete image caption and author, uploader and upload date to en wiki''" instruction given for commons moves. All the track maps hosted on the en wiki were uploaded by [[User:Reub2000|Reub2000]], who GFDL tagged them. However the Commons template that the track maps use licenses them as PD-Self, so a GFDL image is being moved to a PD image, that is looking for trouble <tt>:(</tt> I left him a message a few days ago about all manner of things), but he hasn't to acknowledged it. ==Version 0.5: accelerating loss of brain mass==
Hi again Titoxd! Thanks for your patience. The problem might be in my head in a generalized way (loss of brain mass), or specifically in my not knowing the "Good article" process that this is based on (I think?). I haven't been involved in that. Could you assist me with a single example, and then maybe I'll get a handle on it? I don't think ''[[The Giver]]'' ought to be part of Version 0.5. It's [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Version_0.5 here] (under "Literature"), [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Language_and_literature_Version_0.5_articles here], and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Version_0.5_articles_by_quality_log#June_30.2C_2006 here], but not [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Version_0.5_articles_by_quality here] or [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:V0.5N here]. To [[User talk:Jeffrey O. Gustafson|Jeffrey O. Gustafson]] who initiated this block request I ask why? We have had no interaction until now so how do you come to this requested action at [[WP:AN]]? Did you come across my account during your own research or are you acting as a proxy for another admin/user with whom I've caused to be angry with me? In reviewing your contributions I see no such "letter of the law" before now and so I feel singled out by you and I have no clue as to why - that to me is most disturbing. If you've come to this action on your own then should I be always wary of another admin challenging the legitimacy of my account?<br>

For [[User:TenOfAllTrades|TenOfAllTrades]] who advised me not to worry and [[User:Rick Block|Rick]] who made me laugh I give special thanks, you've helped me to not take this so personally. And to [[User talk:Jeffrey O. Gustafson|Jeff]], thanks for being courteous in informing me of your action and for letting me feel that your heart wasn't for blocking me. <br>
Except for my one explanation above, I haven't edited for a few days now so as to allow y'all to comment about this based on my history of contribution rather than my reaction to it. <br>

I wanted to say all of this before it all goes to archive heaven. I still have a lingering concern that this may arise again and don't want to go through WP life looking over my shoulder or worrying that I might piss-off some admin and cause another inquiry about the legitimacy of my account. If any of you who have been so gracious as to take the time to support me here have any suggestions to prevent such an action, please drop your thoughts on my talk or by email. <br>

Finally, on a personal note to all, I never ever expected so much supportive response from all of you. I know that I've been moody at times and have spoken in ways that I have regretted the next day. I hoped otherwise but it seemed that those unfortunate responses might end up being my legacy as they were the foremost in my mind. And so far as this being a "role account", I think that I'll let the descriptions of [[User:Musical Linguist|AnnH]] and [[User:NoSeptember|NoSeptember]] (both above) stand as the most intuitive descriptions of this account. My (and our) warmest regards to all of you for your understanding and outward support for the continuation of [[User:Hydnjo|hydnjo's]] user account and future contributions. Again, my delighted and humble thanks :-) --[[User:Hydnjo|hydnjo]] [[User talk:Hydnjo|talk]] 02:03, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

'''addendum:''' Jeff, I was confused at the outset in that I wasn't aware of the "role account" policy and then after becoming aware I was frustrated that I had made so many edits which could mislead someone to the conclusion that my account was a role account. I'm sorry that in my zeal to understand your actions that I posed the possibility that you were acting at someone else's behest. I have no evidence of that and it was improper of me to even mention that such a bizarre conspiracy was possible. I find myself guilty of "blaming the messenger" and posting an inappropriate comment about your motivation. <br>

As for my account, I want to state that it is not a role account and I apologize for leaving the impression that it is one. "'''hydnjo'''" is the signature that I commonly use for much of my correspondence and thought it to be appropriate when I first started my WP account. The portmanteau is an acknowledgment of our shared existence and not an indication that Heidi and I share in editing at WP.<br>

I thank you for your courtesy in informing me at the outset of the discussion at [[WP:AN]] and for your compliments about my contributions. The comments in my response were made in the shadow of my own frustration with my having left a trail of edits that could easily be construed as having come from either Heidi or myself. I sincerely apologize to you for making any suggestion as to your motivation in bringing up a legitimate policy question. You have a genuine concern for the orderly behavior of our editors and I thank you for initiating this discussion and providing me the opportunity to explain the nature of my account. --[[User:Hydnjo|hydnjo]] [[User talk:Hydnjo|talk]] 18:54, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

== Libya ==

Hi,

I've recently added [[Libya]] to the list of featured article candidates. Overall the candidature is going well with many of the objections now sorted out. The final concrete objection is with the article's prose. I have been the main contributor to the article and have been looking at it for the previous 9 - 10 months. My eyes no longer see it freshly, so I am not a suitable copy-editor!

To meet the final demand of copy editing, I have been advised to ask different people to edit parts of the article.

I would really love to get this article featured as you can probably see from the page's history! I've worked very hard on it and I see this as possibly being the final hurdle.

You can see the prose objections, mostly raised by [[User:SandyGeorgia|Sandy]], on the [[Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/Libya|candidature page]]. If you have the time, please choose a section (Politics, Religion, Culture etc.) and <s>copyedit<s>, <s>perfect<s>, ace it! I would be very grateful with any help I can get.

Thanks a lot,

== TC Dabs and Cats ==

Yuck, this is horrible... I'm starting to plod through these now, but I feel its just going to be ''hideous''. For a start I think I'm going to need admin help for a lot of them. Here's a couple so far:
*[[Hurricane Adrian]] redirects to [[Hurricane Adrian (2005)]] and the disambig is at [[Hurricane Adrian (disambiguation)]]. As Adrian wasn't retired last year that's clearly wrong...
*[[Tropical Storm Allison (disambiguation)]] is a redirect to [[Hurricane Allison (disambiguation)]]. However both have non-trivial edit histories so a history merge might be needed and despite what Jdorje said in his edit summaries on both, [[Tropical Storm Allison (disambiguation)]] ''is'' the correct one, due to the existence of 4 storms named "Alison" in the southern Hemisphere (check [[List of named tropical cyclones]]).

As you can see thats barely halfway through A, theres going to be many many similar problems I'm sure. Should I just list them up at [[WP:RM]] as and when I find them?

Also I made a created a couple bad cats in the SH recategorising, [[:Category:2005-06 Australian tropical cyclone season]] instead of [[:Category:2005-06 Australian cyclone season]] and [[:Category:1983-1984 Australian cyclone season]] instead of [[:Category:1983-84 Australian cyclone season]]. ===Thoughts?===
*DA left me a note too. I'm trying to clear the mess up, but I really don't know what to do with T-Man. He seems to have disregarded consensus at [[List of Justice League episodes]] and not helped his case at [[Talk:List of Justice League episodes]]. Whilst he's made comments which border on the margins of incivility, I'm not sure they come in for being personal attacks. I don't judge his comment against DA which DA links to above as a personal attack, it's rather his sloppy english I think. That said, if you happen to take a diffrent view, I would respect that. However, his subpage creation at [[User talk:T-man, the Wise Scarecrow/Vandalism & Harassment]] is something I would consider a personal attack, and I've asked him not to create these before. Looking at his arb com page, he's up to 4 blocks for personal attacks, so his permanent ban doesn't kick in yet. I'm not sure what to do with this. I've left a note with DA to leave T-Man well alone, and I've asked T-Man to consider letting me delete it, otherwise I will list it at MFD. == Copyright on track maps ==

I'm not sure about the copyright issues with utilising Gary Padgett's summaries for making the track maps. He prepares track data for all storms in all basins, generally utilising data from the JTWC. The raw data from the JTWC data is available online at the NRL. Does this mean I can just use his text to make the track map and then just source to the JTWC, without attribution to him? After all I could collate exactly the same data myself but it would take a lot of time and effort. If I do have to give him attribution, does that mean that I cannot claim the image as PD-self? Would some other commons-permissible license be usable if that is a problem?

In addition he utilises other sources (the RSMCs) than the JTWC in preparing some of the tracks. Can I make use of the JMA or Australian BoM best track data ''at all'', and if I can do I need to use a different license to PD-self (for the images). Again, do I need to attribute GP when I make use of his tracks, some of the time he uses his judgement to pick which of the JTWC or the RSMC to go with. And then there is [[Commons:Image:Catarina 2004 track.png|Catarina]] where he publishes a track prepared by another private individual. Is the image description I have provided there adequate?

Or am I just worrying about nothing here, as long as I source the location of the original advisories can I just use it as is done with the Atlantic storms?--[[User:Nilfanion|Nilfanion]] ([[User talk:Nilfanion|talk]]) 14:34, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
:I think that is mostly paranoia on my part. I'm having to go to the original warnings to generate the data anyway, and I'm merely referring to his summaries to verify I have them right. However, there is a couple things I'm unsure of. When generating track maps am I correct in thinking that there are no copyright problems? My guess is that the bulletins are protected by the copyright of the issuing organization (if it has any), but I can use the data without being concerned about copyright issues. That is as long as I satisfy [[WP:V]] and link to the source of the data. On that note is the citing in Catarina's image description OK? Thanks.--[[User:Nilfanion|Nilfanion]] ([[User talk:Nilfanion|talk]]) 14:57, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

'''Storm of the month'''

[[Image:TSBilis 05W 2006.jpg|right|Severe Tropical Storm Bilis approaching Taiwan|150px]] '''[[Tropical Storm Bilis (2006)|Severe Tropical Storm Bilis]]''' was a damaging tropical storm that caused significant damage to areas of southeastern [[China]], the [[Philippines]] and [[Taiwan]]. The fourth named storm of the [[2006 Pacific typhoon season]] formed to the east of the Philippines on [[July 8]] and moved towards Taiwan, strengthening as it did so. It reached its peak strength of 110 km/h (70 mph) on [[July 13]], shortly before it made its first landfall on northern Taiwan. Bilis then made a second landfall in [[Fujian]], China on [[July 14]] after officials evaucated over 1 million residents from the areas in the storm's path. The remnant lasted for several days after landfall and brought heavy rain to inland China. The most significant damage occurred in [[Hunan]], where heavy flooding and [[mudslide]]s destroyed over 31,000 homes and killed 345. Despite never reaching typhoon strength, the storm was responsible for $2.5 billion in damage and at least 625 fatalities in total.

'''Other tropical cyclone activity'''

There were 10 other tropical cyclones worldwide in July, with activity in all 4 northern hemisphere basins.

*In the [[2006 Atlantic hurricane season|Atlantic]], [[Tropical Storm Beryl (2006)|Tropical Storm Beryl]] made landfall on [[Nantucket]] on [[July 21]] before bringing rain to [[Atlantic Canada]].
*In the [[2006 Pacific hurricane season|East Pacific]], Hurricane Bud was a Category 3 hurricane that formed on [[July 10]] and dissipated on [[July 15]].
*Hurricane Carlotta twice became a minimal hurricane before degenerating into a remnant low on [[July 16]].
*Hurricane Daniel reached Category 4 strength and was predicted to make landfall in [[Hawaii]] before it dissipated on [[July 26]].
*Tropical Storm Emilia brought tropical storm-force winds to southern [[Baja California]] on [[July 26]] and was forecast to become a hurricane but this did not occur.
*Tropical Storm Fabio formed late on [[July 31]] but did not last long in the face of strong shear.
*In the [[2006 Pacific typhoon season|West Pacific]],Typhoon Ewiniar (Ester) formed on [[June 29]] to the east of the [[Philippines]], it reached Category 4 strength before making landfall in [[South Korea]] on [[July 10]] as a tropical storm. It killed at least 36 people.
*Typhoon Kaemi (Glenda) formed on [[July 2]] and passed over [[Taiwan]] before dissipating over mainland [[China]] on [[July 26]]. It brought heavy rain to Taiwan and the Philippines and killed at least 32 people in China.
*Typhoon Prapiroon (Henry) formed on [[July 28]] but did not reach tropical storm strength until August.
*In the [[2006 North Indian cyclone season|North Indian Ocean]], Tropical Storm 03B formed on [[June 30]] near the east [[India]]n coast before making landfall on the [[Orissa]] coast on [[July 2]].

==[[Applecrest Farm Orchards]]==
Help me plz! Chacor put an article I wrote up for deletion because he thinks it is non-notable and has an unencyclopediac tone, even though it's the oldest currently running apple orchard in the US. Could you please give it one of your magical copyedits before August 11? I would do a little myself, but I'm trying to go on a wikibreak until mid-september. Thanks! [[User:Icelandic Hurricane|íslenska]] '''''[[User:Icelandic Hurricane/Contributions|hurikein]] [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Emailuser/Icelandic_Hurricane| #12]''''' [[User talk:Icelandic Hurricane|(samtal)]] 13:33, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

== Notability revert at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion ==

I didn't delete the information you reverted but I am more in favor of its deletion than its inclusion.

"Notability should not be used to argue for or against the inclusion of information on Wikipedia – instead, official guidelines and policy relating to NPOV, NOR, and Verifiability should be used. However, it is valid to use it as a guide to the placement of that information."&mdash;[[Wikipedia:Non-notability]]

"There is no official policy on notability."&mdash;[[Wikipedia:Notability]]

While both these quotes are from controversial [[essays]], at least the second one can be said to be uncontestably true. There is no policy on notability. It should not be included in discussions of "good arguments for deletion", because many feel that it isn't a good argument.

I was surprised to find this in the [[Wikipedia:Notability]] essay as one of the "arguments for deleting non-notable articles":
:'''There is a precedent'''
:Many people already act on the assumption that notability is a requirement for inclusion.
Unfortunately, having notability listed as a good argument for deletion every time the topic comes up only furthers this assumption. I won't re-hash the arguments for and against notability as a requirement here; my point is that until it is a policy it shouldn't be a measure of an article's suitability for inclusion.<font color="FF6600">&mdash;</font>[[User:Chidom|<font color="FF6600">'''Chidom'''</font>]]&nbsp;[[User talk:Chidom|<font color="660000">'''talk'''</font>]]&nbsp; 05:48, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I did a rather major revision on the [[WP:AFD]] page to hopefully more accurately reflect the topic. I'm still in favor (obviously) of it being used as an argument as a last resort; if an article truly doesn't belong there should be other, better arguments for its deletion.<font color="FF6600">&mdash;</font>[[User:Chidom|<font color="FF6600">'''Chidom'''</font>]]&nbsp;[[User talk:Chidom|<font color="660000">'''talk'''</font>]]&nbsp; 06:06, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

==Cite php format==
I saw on a metawiki talk page you talked about how wikipedia changed the ref formats to a ^ and letters for multiple refs. I can't find anywhere that says how to do this. I'd like to do this on the wikimedia server I run at work. The info I find says it's doable, but not much about how to do it. Can you help or point me in the right direction?[[User:Rlevse|Rlevse]] 18:27, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

:Someone else at work figured this out...

===Set references to use ^ and letters like Wikipedia===
In file Cite.i18n.php starting at about line 47,<br>
<nowiki>
'cite_references_link_one' => '<li id="$1">[[#$2|^]] $3</li>', 'cite_references_link_many' => '<li id="$1">^ $2 $3</li>', 'cite_references_link_many_format' => '[[#$1|<sup>$3</sup>]]',
</nowiki><br>
The ^ replaces the up arrows and putting $3 in the last line between the sup /sup tags fixes the links w/ a b c... vice 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc...
[[User:Rlevse|Rlevse]] 18:56, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

===formatting not working===
:More details...so the refs work now but the dates are red because the date and year pages are not created, BUT they appear in ISO format (what I typed them in), NOT the MMM DD, YYYY date format I have my preferences set to. What is causing this?[[User:Rlevse|Rlevse]] 11:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

==List of Admins by edit count==
Hey Tito,

The [[Wikipedia:List of administrators by edit count|List of admins by edit count]] hasn't been updated in a few months. Your name appears on the talk page, and it ''appears'' from the comments there that you have something to do with the creation or updating of the list. Is this the case, and, if so, can we get an update (Yes, I freely admit I suffer from editcountitis)?

Happy editing! :) --<font color="#0000FF">[[User:Firsfron|Firsfron of Ronchester]]</font> 07:52, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

There's a slight change of plans regarding publication dates of the Interwiki Report for The Wikipedia Signpost. We'd like the Spanish Interwiki Report to appear on Aug. 28th instead of Sept. 4th Could you possibly pull it off ? Please let me know ASAP.

== Propose a cleanup ==

Hi!
re: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:WikiProject_edit_counters&diff=prev&oldid=68333400 I got this far] in trying to back track how current the posts were on this project page. Do you think it would put anyone's nose out of joint to add some dates to the various announcement paragraphs and in general organize the page better for those of us that have no script knowledge and are looking at the project from the outside. {{i}} It'd be nice to see some sort of summary area suggesting the best recommended technique of each area. {{i}}In particular, what script work arounds do work with {{i}}A) the standard MSIE6 browser {{i}}B) Firefox (I limit myself to only short edits with that... lost too many edits) {{i}}C) OPera, and other common browsers (?Netscape???){{i}}Listing that way would be truly useful to know and '''should be spelled out''' on the project page clearly preferably as a section with the current consensus recommendations among what appears to be many listed, imho, for those of us without Unix based systems to rely on, and less interest or knowledge of scripts than you guru's with strong CS backrounds.

I don't really care much about editcounts, but it's been a long long while since there was a promise implicitly made to get Interiot's tool up again. I have to confess I'm a little curious as to what has built up since May! <g>

Followed you home from: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Flcelloguy#Flcelloguy.27s_Tool_v5.00 here], and recalled seeing you on Interiot's page. Plz rely my talk. Suggest you link your talk in Sig with middle two letters... Advertising Esperanza is your affair, but why make people double-link-click to reach you? Is your user page really all that interesting? That would be unique! <g> (Most are pretty useless.) Best regards // <B>[[User:Fabartus|Fra]]</B><font color="green">[[User talk:Fabartus|nkB]]</font> 18:31, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

== Class creation ==

I experimentally created the template for "Current-Class" for current events - which are difficult to classify - but haven't added it to any articles, as I wanted you to evaluate what it looks like. (It was suggested earlier in June in the Tropical Cyclones project)

Here is an example:
{| class="messagebox standard-talk"
|-
|[[Image:Hurricane Andrew Landfall.jpg|center|50px|Hurricanes]]
| align="center" | ''This article is part of '''[[Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones|WikiProject Tropical cyclones]]''', a project to systematically present information on [[tropical cyclone]]s and storm seasons. If you would like to participate, you can choose to edit the article attached to this page (see [[Wikipedia:Contributing FAQ]] for more information).''
|-
| {{Current-Class}}
| align="left" | ''This article has been rated as Current-Class on the [[:Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment|assessment scale]].''
|}

What do you think? [[User:CrazyC83|CrazyC83]] 22:52, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

== Wikisort ==

I think it would be easier to use a bot + a script. The script would create a "rate" tab on each article and post the rating to a user subpage. The bot would look at the ratings on the user subpage and get the final rating somehow. This way, we don't have to wait for the developers to make changes to the software because the bot can be run by one user and the scripts can be posted on the scripts page. We could make the script more well known by posting it on the village pump. The bot doesn't need to be well known because only a single user has to run it. [[User:Eyu100|Eyu100]] 23:28, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

Final script (untested, requires addTab):

function write_to_ratings_page() {

document.ca-edit.click();
document.editform.wpTextbox1.value = document.editform.wpTextbox1.value + "(" + quality + " and " + importance + " and " + pagename + ")";
document.editform.wpSummary.value = "Added rating";
document.editform.wpMinoredit.checked = true;
document.editform.submit();
}

function get_rating() { var quality=prompt("Please enter a quality rating from 1 to 6, 1 is stub, 6 is FA","") var importance=prompt("Please enter an importance rating from 1 to 4, 1 is low, 4 is top","") }

function rate() {

get_rating();
document.ca-cumbersome_tab.click();
write_to_ratings_page();
}

addOnloadHook(

function() {
var pagename=getPname();
addTab("javascript:rate()", "rate", "ca-rate", "Rate this page", "");
addTab("http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Eyu100/Bot_area", "DO NOT CLICK THIS", "ca-cumbersome_tab", "PLEASE _DON'T_ CLICK THIS", "");
}
);

== [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Tropical cyclones/Navigation]] ==

Hey, this is a really useful thing Tito :). However, it seems to be causing problems in several locations (with formatting). The portal and newsletter page are both distorted badly by it and perhaps others too. A bit of JS Voodoo should do the job I suppose for the newsletter, but I would much rather see a good solution for the Portal, a redesign? One thing, I ''don't'' think the archive pages should be included in the navigation bar, as they are not of as much benefit to users. The archive for the newsletter in particular will get rapidly out of hand (2 pages a month?), a internal archive linking for the newsletter seems more appropriate. <small>—The preceding [[Wikipedia:Sign your posts on talk pages|unsigned]] comment was added by [[User:Nilfanion|Nilfanion]] ([[User talk:Nilfanion|talk]] • [[Special:Contributions/Nilfanion|contribs]]) 06:42, 29 August 2006 (UTC).</small>
: Well, feel free to make any changes - that was just the first hack. I really wanted to keep the archives centralized in one place, though, because I saw archive headers that contained links to one archive, and others that contained to four, and then a few others that contained seven. [[User:Titoxd|Tito]][[Wikipedia:Esperanza|<span style="color:#008000;">xd</span>]]([[User talk:Titoxd|?!?]]) 06:42, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
::Well yeah, I can see the point. And for a first hack it isn't bad at all. However, I think the archive function should be seperated from the main navigation points, they are not of as direct use. A second one like /Archives maybe? As for the formatting you ''know'' what I've been up to lately on Commons - do you really think I'm feeling at all creative at the moment? :P--[[User:Nilfanion|Nilfanion]] ([[User talk:Nilfanion|talk]]) 18:52, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

[[Image:Typhoon saomai 2006.jpg|right|Typhoon Saomai nearing its landfall in China|150px]]
'''[[Typhoon Saomai (2006)|Typhoon Saomai]]''' (known as '''Typhoon Juan''' to PAGASA) claimed at least 441 lives and caused over [[U.S. dollar|$]]1.5 billion in damage. After forming on [[August 4]] near [[Chuuk]], the storm brought heavy rain and strong winds to the [[Mariana Islands|Marianas]], the [[Philippines]], [[Taiwan]] and southeastern [[People's Republic of China|China]]. It started to intensify, and reached its official peak with winds of 95 knots (175 km/h, 110 mph) on [[August 9]]. The [[JTWC]] reported that it peaked as a Category 5 super typhoon the same day, a strength [[People's Republic of China|Chinese]] forecasters described as the most powerful to hit China in 50 years. Saomai maintained that strength until landfall on [[August 10]] and dissipated inland the next day.

'''Other tropical cyclone activity'''

There were 16 other tropical cyclones during August, in the northern Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
*In the [[2006 Atlantic hurricane season|Atlantic]], [[Tropical Storm Chris (2006)|Tropical Storm Chris]] moved to the north of [[Puerto Rico]] before dissipating on [[August 5]] near [[Cuba]].
*Tropical Storm Debby formed near the [[Cape Verde]] islands on [[August 21]] but had no effects on land.
*[[Hurricane Ernesto (2006)|Hurricane Ernesto]] formed in the Caribbean on [[August 24]] and affected [[Haiti]] and Cuba, before making landfalls in [[Florida]] and [[South Carolina]]. It killed at least 5 people.
*In the [[2006 Pacific hurricane season|east Pacific]], Tropical Storm Fabio dissipated on [[August 3]] well away from land.
*Tropical Storm Gilma formed on [[August 1]] and lasted for two days before dissipating.
*Hurricane Hector reached its peak as a Category 2 hurricane on [[August 18]] well away from land.
*Hurricane Ileana became the second major hurricane of the east Pacific season when it reached Category 3 intensity on [[August 23]].
*[[Hurricane John (2006)|Hurricane John]] formed near to [[Mexico]] on [[August 28]] and to the northwest near the coast. It prompted a series of warnings from [[Michoacán]] to [[Baja California Sur]], where it made landfall in September.
*Hurricane Kristy was briefly a hurricane on [[August 31]], but its proximity to Hurricane John caused it to weaken soon after.
*[[Hurricane Ioke]] became the most intense Central Pacific hurricane on record on [[August 26]] with a minimum pressure of 920 mbar. After crossing the dateline and becoming Typhoon Ioke it passed just to the north of Wake Island at Category 4 strength.
*Typhoon Prapiroon (Henry) reached its peak as a minimal typhoon in the [[South China Sea]]. It killed 77 people when it made landfall in [[China]].
*Severe Tropical Storm Maria formed on [[August 4]] and threatened [[Japan]]ese coast.
*Severe Tropical Storm Bopha (Inday) passed over [[Taiwan]] as a tropical storm on [[August 9]].
*Tropical Storm Wukong passed over [[Kyūshū]] on [[August 18]].
*Tropical Storm Sonamu (Katring) was a minimal storm that was absorbed by Wukong on [[August 20]].

== Completing Version 0.5 reviews ==

Hi Tito, thank you so much for everything you've done so far on Version 0.5! We've made it over 1000 articles! Now we only have about four weeks left to review articles for [[Wikipedia:Version 0.5]]. I was wondering if you could take a look at [[Wikipedia:Version_0.5/To_do]] and sign up for something? I'd like us to make sure we don't miss anything important. And once the end of the month rolls around we can take a well-deserved break...! I know you're busy, but any help you can give would be most welcome. Hope to talk with you further on IRC next Sunday at 4pm EST. Thanks, [[User:Walkerma|Walkerma]] 21:22, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

--[[User:Taichi|Taichi]] 16:08, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

== Regarding this edit/TS review ==
Titoxd, regarding [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:K4zem#User_talk:Taichi this,] I was wondering if you speak Spanish, as there is a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:K4zem#Luis_Tasc.C3.B3n pattern,] which continues [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Messhermit#Daniel_Ortega today]. I've been trying to get this editor to discuss changes (even translating for him) and use edit summaries for a while: in case you don't speak Spanish, I wish we could find an admin who does. On a separate matter, you commented long ago on the peer review for [[Tourette syndrome]]; can you have a fresh look at the article whenever you have time (no hurry whatsoever)? [[User:SandyGeorgia|Sandy]] 22:39, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

:I'll add that article to my list to look at later today. No, I'm not worried about a warning for anything he's said to me - it doesn't really trouble me personally - I was just concerned that someone who speaks Spanish was aware of the tone. Back to you later on Katrina. [[User:SandyGeorgia|Sandy]] 12:27, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

== Meteorological history of Hurricane Katrina ==
* Should the lead have some mention of the devastation? Not sure how you feel about inline citations in the lead, but you might want to cite this in the lead: however, the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico allowed it to rapidly intensify to the sixth strongest Atlantic hurricane in history.
* Those conditions did not fulfill the criteria for keeping the same name and identity.[2] Change to: The criteria for keeping the same name and identity were not met. (More active voice vs. passive? A style choice for me, not important.)
* Contradiction in the lead: The next day, the tropical depression strengthened to a tropical storm, receiving the name Katrina, and made landfall on southern Florida as a minimal hurricane. This implies it made landfall on the 24th, but the text says the 25th ?
* The initial NHC forecasts - this is the first mention in the text of the initials, NHC. The reader can guess that it stands for National Hurricane Center, but that should be mentioned and or linked on its first occurrence.
* eventually to hit the Florida Panhandle approximately three to four days in the future.[3] - three to four days later.
* Immediately after the storm entered the Gulf of Mexico, the low wind shear, good upper-level outflow, and the warm sea surface temperatures of the Gulf Loop Current caused Katrina to <s>start</s> intensify<s>ing </s> rapidly.
* but led to an almost doubling in radius of the storm.[2] - but almost doubled the storm radius.
* The center of Katrina was about 180 mi (290 km) <s>away</s> from the mouth of the Mississippi River, but tropical storm-force winds extended 230 statute miles (370 km) <s>away</s> from the center of the storm, and hurricane-force winds extended about 105 miles (170 km)<s> away.</s>[9]
* Overnight on August 29, and into that morning, - into the next morning? August 30 ?
* At landfall, hurricane-force winds extended <s>outward</s> 120 miles (190 km) <s>from the center</s> and the storm's central pressure was 920 mbar. (Similar in many places - isn't the "outward" implied, redundant?)
* The other half of Katrina broke off in the eastern part of the Appalachians, <s>primarily</s> leading to a significant tornado outbreak in

I'm not sure what the proper procedure is, but when I use ProQuest I just assume that the database is accurate and cite the article as if I had seen a hard copy. I feel this is justified especially for stuff in the Historical NYT database, since all the articles are scanned copies of what appeared in the newspaper. Probably the same can be assumed for other databases, but you could also just put a parenthetical note saying which database it came from. --[[User:Spangineer|Spangineer]][[:es:Usuario:Spangineer|es]]&nbsp;<small><font color="brown">[[User talk:Spangineer|(háblame)]]</font></small> 05:59, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

I have noticed when you closed the above AfD, you did not remove the category template, "REMOVE THIS TEMPLATE

deleted it from this discussion, but if you could review any other closures you have done recently and
remove the tag from them it would be greatly appreicated. This is a fairly recent change. The guideline is
at [[WP:AFDC]]. I have been going through the listing in each of the categories [[CAT:AFD]] and
