== You have adware on your browser ==

Assuming you are viewing articles on en.wikipedia.org and not some mirror site, you have adware in your browser. Wikipedia does not put pop-up ads in its links, so the problem is on your end. Just because the adware got its image from the Mediawiki servers means nothing, that would be a good way for scammers to try and make their adware appear legitimate.

You need to run your security software. If you do not have security software, I can recommend some for you.

:OK, thanks, that's a great relief. I'll put the banhammer away and start figuring why this adware more or less coincides with an unusually crap update to Firefox. I'm not accustomed to experiencing such things on Debian Linux/Firefox/AdblockPlus/NoScript. ::I've switched from AdblockPlus and NoScript (well sort of on NoScript), because those weren't blocking a lot of things for me. I use Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, and uMatrix (which is a lot more selective than NoScript). I still have NoScript to deal with clickjacking, but that's all. This IP address appears to be semi-permanently assigned to user Steelpillow, who sometimes forgets to log in and thus exposes it. You may want to post on their user talk page.
