Johan (Yona) Kremenezky also spelled Kremenetski, (Hebrew: יונה קרמנצקי, Yona Krementski; born Jonas Yosipovich Levinson circa 1850, Odessa - 25 October 1936, Vienna), was an Industrial Zionist electrical engineer, founder of Jewish National Fund, personal secretary and adviser of Theodore Herzl.

Zionist Activism

First chairman of the JNF from 1902-1907^[1]

JNF's blue charity boxes were distributed by the JNF almost from its inception at the initiative of Kremenezky. Once found in many Jewish homes, the boxes became one of the most familiar symbols of Zionism. Additionally he sold stamps to raise funds.^[2]

Recognition

June 20, 1956 street was named after him in Vienna, called Kremenetzkygasse.^[3] 19°4′5″N 3°4′1″E / 19.06806°N 3.06694°E / 19.06806; 3.06694

A street is also named after him in Tel Aviv.
