Sonique is the stage name of Kylie Love,[1] an American drag queen, dancer, reality television personality and transgender activist. She is best known for competing on the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race and placing ninth, as well as the first Drag Race contestant to come out as transgender.

Early Life

Sonique was originally born Jason Edwards on May 3, 1983 in Atlanta, Georgia.[2][3] She came out as transgender to her mother at 15 and later was sent to military school to try to be "more masculine". She received a GED at the Albany Technical College.[4]

Career

Sonique was announced to be one of twelve contestants for season two of RuPaul's Drag Race on February 1, 2010.[5] She was placed in the bottom two in episode four and lost a lip sync to "Two of Hearts" by Stacey Q against Morgan McMichaels.[6] She revealed to be a transgender woman during the reunion episode.[7]
