Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management University (EIILM University) was a private university located in South Sikkim district in the Indian state of Sikkim. It was run by Rai Foundation.[1] Malvika Foundation was the Sponsoring Body of EIILM University. The university has been dissolved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). and further fuctioning for existing students have been provided to HRDDSIKKIM.
History
The institute was established in 1995. In 1999, the institute started offering Master of Business Administration through Visva-Bharati University. EIILM later became a constituent college of Visva-Bharati University.[when?] In 2006 it was established as a university under Sikkim State Legislature Act No 4, 2006. The Act received assent of the Governor on March 24, 2006 that was published under the Government of Sikkim, Gazette Notification No. 28/LD/2006 dated April 3, 2006. However, as per UGC, the University has stopped functioning since December 2014 and its status "may be seen".[2]
Closure of the university
In 2013 the VC, chairman, registrar, and the controller of examinations were arrested by the police in Sikkim and Bengal in a case of forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy.[3]
According to a fact-finding committee constituted by the UGC in April 2015, EIILM University was recognized and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) through its main campus in regular mode, and was authorized to open study centers within Sikkim. The committee concluded that all degrees for students enrolled for a regular program and DEC students within SIKKIM jurisdiction are valid and are validated by HRDDSIKKIM.
