Blog 27

Blog 27 is a Polish pop girl group consisting of teenagers Tola Szlagowska and Alicja "Ala" Boratyn (until October 2006). The pair debuted while they were 13 years old in the summer of 2005 with a cover version of Alexia's hit "Uh La La La"; it became one of the biggest Polish hits of the season. Blog's second single "Hey Boy (Get Your Ass Up)" (cover of Teddybears was released later the same year and the album LOL sold over 100,000 copies and peaked at #2 in Poland, becoming platinum. Their singles also did very well on the Polish charts, all making it to the top 10; the most successful was "Wid Out Ya", four times #1. In early 2006 the group went on tour with Tokio Hotel, released three singles in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, and one ("Uh La La La") in France, Italy, Hungary and Japan. Five singles were released in Poland: "Uh La La La", "Hey Boy", "Wid Out Ya", "I Still Don't Know Ya" and "Who I Am".

On October 18, 2006, Alicja announced her departure from Blog 27, writing "This group is first of all realization of Tola's ambitions and road to her success. There's no place for me." at the group's website (deleted since); she plans a solo career with a new album in March. Blog 27 is currently Tola (vocalist), Janek Szlagowski (drummer), Alek (guitarist), Adam and Sylwia (dancers).

Public opinion towards the pair has often been openly antagonistic. In the band's official blog, bashers wrote thousands of negative comments. Ironically, there are over a thousand blogs written in criticism of Blog 27.

In mid-October 2006 various Polish tabloid and gossip media (first websites, later magazines and TV), stated that "Uh La La La" topped Japanese "National Airplay Charts", including enthusiastic comments by band members; this started a moderate public debate on both how successful Polish performers can be abroad, and what kind of music preference the Japanese have that they liked the band. However the claim was disputed as poorly sourced and confirmed: It was not even clear what chart was meant (most probably Oricon Airplay Chart, where "Uh La La La" peaked on #18 overall, possibly being best in the foreign category).

Trivia

  • Both Tola and Alicja were born on November 27 1992.
  • The group's name comes from their interest in blogging and the date they were both born.
  • Tola's mother has her own record label, called Magic Records. She published Blog 27's CD after a plea from her daughter.
  • Tola's father Jarosław is a former rock drummer; he works for an advertisement company and he created Blog 27's image.
  • Most Polish teens surveyed said that Blog 27 would not succeed internationally.
  • In May 2006, a new TV commercial of Fiat, the most popular car maker in Italy, featured Blog 27's "Uh La La La". "Fiat chose this song because it is happy and youthful," said Simona Lizoli, manager of Italian Melodica Records.
