Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University is a proposed specialized government university in Bangladesh. It will be funded by the Government of Bangladesh. This will be Bangladesh's first higher education institution on aerospace engineering.[1] The university will be established on 11 acres of land in Ashkona, Dhaka. The first student admission program will begin in 2020.

History

On July 11, 2018 the UGC drafted the law and submitted it to the Ministry of Education for setting up This Aviation University.[2] At the meeting of the Council of Ministers on September 28, 2018 the approval for the establishment of BSMRAAU was granted on the same day that three more universities received policy approval. Education Minister Dipu Moni placed the bill in the National Parliament which was passed on 28 February 2019.[3] A temporary office has been set up at the old airport at Tejghaw, Dhaka to handle the activities of the university.[4] Air Vice Marshal Fazlul Haque has been appointed as the founding Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University on 26 May 2019.[5]
