ActivTrak

ActivTrak is a cloud-based tool to track employee activity. The company was developed in 2012 by Birch Grove Software[1].

Considered a team behavioral analysis tool, ActivTrak uses machine learning (AI) to pick up the most productive workflows in an organization and then replicate them to analyze employee productivity.[2] The core functionality of the software is a tracking agent that collects data on employee activity.[3] These data can identify staff members who aren’t as productive or who are using their computers for private purposes. ActivTrak can also flag security issues, such as copying files to USB devices, and capture screen images of questionable activity for later review. The tracking agent runs continuously in the background on monitored computers.[4] Thus, ActivTrak captures every employee’s action, sending screenshots and video recordings to their manager.[5] Apart from screenshot reporting, the tool protects sensitive content by blurring captured images when the employee is using private email. The tool works on Windows, macOS, and Linux.[3]

In 2019 ActivTrak raised $20 million in funding from Elsewhere Partners, a growth-stage venture capital firm that principally invests in B2B startups.[6] According to Herb Axilrod, co-founder of ActivTrak, the capital will be used to maintain their office in Dallas and establish the headquarters in Austin, Texas.
