MIT World Peace University (officially known as Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University, colloquially MIT Pune) is a state private university established under Government of Maharashtra Act No. XXXV 2017 and recognized by UGC.[1] It is located in Kothrud Pune.[2] It is a part of MIT Group of Institutes which provides schooling, distance education and professional courses in disciplines such as management, engineering, law, pharmacy, insurance, arts, commerce, science and photography.[3][4]. The subsidiaries of the Group include MIT Pune, MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul, MIT School of Distance Education and Avantika University. [3][5]

History

MIT World Peace University was formerly known as the Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research (MAEER's) group of institutions[6]. Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), established in 1983, was the first college of the MAEER's group of institutions and one of the first private engineering college in Maharashtra. MAEER's was affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), which on 03 May 2017[7], turned into a private university, the MIT World Peace University.[8]
