Etymology

The word yr means light drizzle in Norwegian.

Yr.no offers forecasts across the globe. The website also offers other types of weather related information and news.

Information sources

In addition to data from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, yr.no uses open data from international collaborators such as

• European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites
• GeoNames
• The Norwegian Polar Institute

It also collects information from different types of private weather stations.

History

yr.no was launched as a beta version on May 29, 2007, and officially launched on September 19, 2007.
