Instructions
Please read these instructions carefully. Failure to do so will result in a rejected request.
  • You must use the template shown below in the gray box. If you do not do this, your request will be ignored. Don't forget to sign your name with four tildes, as indicated. If your username contains spaces, you must use an underscore ("_") in the template, as shown below. Do not add links to your username, just the text.
{{subst:Renameuser|Old Username|New Username|My Very Convincing Reason.}} -- ~~~~
  • Check this page periodically to see whether a bureaucrat has fulfilled your request or whether additional information is required. If the request has been fulfilled, read the "Once fulfilled" section for further instructions; of particular importance is the renaming of your userpages to reflect the name change.
  • Please do not request a rename unless it is necessary. If you have only a few edits, see the alternatives below.
  • The link "change username" points to a restricted tool. Only Bureaucrats can access it. Users without a Bureaucrat access level will get an error message instead.
Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Add new requests to the bottom of the page.

OCCAdmin → OCC01

It was suggested I rename: "Hello! Calling yourself admin is not a good idea as some editors could mistake you for an administrator. You can go to WP:CHU and request a change of username before you are blocked for possible impersonation. Regards, (aeropagitica) 23:10, 7 December 2006 (UTC) I agree. Alternatively, if you really want to keep this username you should put a note on your user page clarifying that you are not a Wikipedia administrator. Wikipedia policy forbids usernames that imply administrative status on Wikipedia. (I'm sure you were unaware of this and didn't intend to mislead anyone.)--Srleffler 02:08, 8 December 2006 (UTC)"

Please rename to "OCC01"

LordSuryaofShropshire → LordSimonofShropshire

  • Current name: LordSuryaofShropshire (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: LordSimonofShropshire (change username)
  • Reason: As a Wikipedian with quite a fair number of edits and a reasonable impact on several different topics, most notably those related to Hinduism and India, also Indian languages, also some legal topics like Sandra Day O'Connor and the FOIA, my name is well-known to some and readily Google-able... unfortunately, I no longer wish to edit Wikipedia pages and Surya is my real name... I wish to 'vanish' completely, as it were, and therefore all references to names by which I am actually known in the meatworld should be removed to preserve my anonymity. I have already arranged for Bureaucrats to delete as much information as possible (for instance, from my userpage), but I would greatly appreciate a name change. By the way, if the name change does indeed get approved, I would immediately request that an administrator block the LordSuryaofShropshire account from ever being used again. Thanks for your consideration. P.S. Nichalp is someone with whom I worked some time back and who has aided my in my vanishing process, so if a bureacrat or administrator not familiar with my case would like more information, he may possibly be of some help. P.P.S. Nichalp, please don't mind my referring to you! Peace.
--LordSuryaofShropshire 22:21, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done Nope, I don't mind a reference to me. Two things to remember. User:LordSuryaofShropshire is available, you would have to recreate it and have it blocked. See Wikipedia:Changing username #Once fulfilled. Secondly, all signed links would still be present. =Nichalp «Talk»= 04:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DonaldD23 → Donaldd23

  • Current name: DonaldD23
  • Requested name: Donaldd23 (merge?)
  • Reason: When I first starting using Wikipedia I created an account DonaldD23, with the 3rd "D" capitalized. I made about 4 edits before I somehow created a second account, Donaldd23, with the 3rd "D" in lowercase. I stopped using the first account and now I sticktly use only the account with the lowercase letter. Is it possible to merge the edits from the first account into the second account and then delete the account with the capitalized "D"? If not, could you just change the name of the first account (with the capital "D" to something else? I don't want their to be any confusion that I am running 2 accounts, as this is the first time I have logged into the old account since I began the new on. Thanks! Kyo_cat → Tohru_Honda13

  • Current name: Kyo_cat (talk contribs)
  • Requested name: Tohru_Honda13 (change username)
  • Reason: Some users have adressed me as a boy, when in truth I am a girl. I'm thinking this name will correct them. And besides, this is a prettier name to me. A question or two though: 1. If my name is changed, are you going to move my old talk and user pages to the new username page? and 2. For my signature at the end, is that what I'm supposed to have here? Or should I change the preferences to have it standard like the others? I just found these a bit difficult to understand in the rules. Thank you very, very much. -- Kyo cat¿Quíeres hablar? 18:16, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done All we do is the rename; if you want your user/talk pages moved, you will have to do that yourself, by clicking "move" and putting in the new name. As for your signature, you may format it however you like, as long as it doesn't violate any of the signature guidelines. Essjay (Talk) 23:32, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yellow Lion → Nick_Michael

Done You will have to make a separate request on Commons, as it is a different database. Essjay (Talk) 23:33, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
